FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME, MY TRUCK DOESN'T HAVE THE HD PAYLOAD PACKAGE!!!!! HAD I ORDERED THE HD PAYLOAD PACKAGE, IT WOULD HAVE LT TIRES ON IT FROM THE FACTORY!!!!! Not an option for the rams.
Awe, now he's yelling.
RAM did offer that package but those looking for an HD truck want a 2500/3500. Not an overrated 1/2 ton.

I am sure getting more impressed by that F150 Eco with the HD package the more I hear. Does it ride unloaded more like a F150 or like a F250? I just finished hauling a load of bricks 250 miles with my F250 and made me think it sure is nice having a smoother ride.

What about a person who wants to take a foursome on a golf trip? Do they have to buy a 2500/3500 truck too? Here is an example of a new ram with the highest available GVWR of 6800 lbs. The door sticker is less than 1000 lbs. 4 average men, clubs, and a cooler is overweight. I guess they will have to choose between beer or a change of clothes for the trip. That would be a rough decision for many. Lol

RV.Net Open Roads Forum: Can this be right? Laramie longhorn crew 4x4 1500
That is what it does say- something to do with the larger cab... kept reading and got to the toyota tundra and the dealer saying it will pull the space shuttle, so his camper was not a problem, that one did make me crack a smile.
What I do wonder about is, can a person buy that dodge half ton add air lift bladders under the rear and load the truck up or does that still exceed the rear axles max loading??

From what I read on another site there is more than one HD package ,one for payload, one for towing, so now it gets more complicated.
Sounds like if a person buys the large cab , they probably want to get the HD payload and if they get the standard cab ,get the towing, or buy both? How much rougher is the ride then, I doubt it's as stiff riding as any of the 3/4 to 1 tons

Yes, mine has max tow option but not max payload. If you select the 3:73 rear end with certain configurations you will get both. I would have had to get the 6.5' bed with the screw cab and I didn't want that long of a truck. Best thing to do is just build one on ford.com and it will tell you as you go what the GVWR is.

My truck with me and half a tank of gas is 5230lbs. That leaves about 1400lbs for payload/tongue weight which is plenty for it's max tow capacity of 8,550 lbs which is higher than Ford's tow capacity of 7,600 for the same setup in 2003. In case you didn't notice, that sticker is from a 2003 truck...
Certainly it could be higher but with two 3900 lb axles, at least there's plenty of safety factored in. If I needed 3k lbs of payload then I would get a 2500/3500.

They build them Dodges light. My 08 short bed extended can Titan is 5,840 with me according to the scales. I am 170#

Once again, I agree the GVWR is too low but most still don't need an 8,200 lb GVWR and 2,300 lb payload in a 1/2 ton truck. I'll take the MUCH superior ride of coil over springs in a "light duty" truck over a leaf sprung "light duty" truck trying to compete with heavy duty trucks. And since your all about "experience", YES I have driven many new RAM's, Ford's and GM's in tons of configurations and NONE ride as nice empty or moderately loaded as the coil spring RAM.

Maybe that's why it only gets 14 mpg empty on a good day.

I agree, I like the ride of the ram. I needed more payload so I choose something right down the middle.

It will do 14 day in and out but 16.5 is about the best I see on the highway. Does not matter to me, I bought the truck to tow a load and back in 08 there was nothing that could touch a Titan.

That Mickey Mouse coil spring and air bag setup on the Fiat Ram is not going to ever pan out. Air ride has been around forever and its always been a issue.
