F-150 Eco Boost Towing Vs Nissan Titan

Best Avg. I've seen is about 19 after a long highway trip.

Lots of city driving avg. is about 15. Highway driving up to 60 mph about 23 mpg. 65 mph = 20 mpg.

I can get 25 mpg if I keep it about 45-55. So far I think my avg. is about 17 mpg, which is about 2 mpg more than my 5.3 chevy.

supercrew 4x4 3.55 gears. Also I get about 10 mpg towing my 21' center console.

18.9 huh? That's about what my 2003 Superduty 6.0L Diesel 4x4 crewcab used to average (excluding towing) before they fed a new program into the black box a couple of years ago.

PS - I'm sure somebody is going to jump on me about comparing apples and oranges, but I'm not trying to do that. I'm just making an observation and complaining about sneaky dealerships that change your programming when you're in for an oil change.

Ive heard of thsi happening before... Friend of mine took his in for an oil change and they screwed up his programming after loading an update over his Smarty Jr programming. They never asked or made mention of it until it was already done.
I had to take my Dodge up for a recall letter on the suspension.... I had already fixed it myself, but Dodge wouldnt quit sending me letters in the mail....
Anyway, when I took it in, they wanted to pull it in to a service bay and the Service Advisor said they had to hook up to it and check for possible updates..... I stopped them immediately..!! I had to get pretty stern with the S.A. and the Service Manager... told them all they could do was look under it to verify the suspension was ok, and they were NOT authorized to raise the hood or hook to the ECU...
I ended up standing in the service department with the tech as he looked under my truck at the suspension... Truck never left my sight....

A coworker has a 3/4 ton 2008 Superduty that he had a recall done to replace the injectors. Once he got it back he went from 16 to 18 mpg empty to 13. Now that it's out of warranty he's looking into either a chip or reprogramming it to get back to where it was.

Just finished an 800+ mile trip towing with my ecoboost along side a 2004 or 2005 duramax with the Allison transmission. I was towing a high wall popup trailer with two motorcycles that scales in around 5100 lbs. I also had a 600 lb four wheeler in my bed along with some firewood, all total around 5800 lbs. He was towing a 10000 lb rated trailer with two Polaris razrs on it. I am guessing his trailer total weight was around 4000 lbs. He also has some firewood and all totaling around 4300 lbs. He is 4wd and I am 2wd.

The trip was mostly interstate until the mountains of WV. I averaged 11.5 on the trip running 75 mph for the majority of the miles. The trip computer and hand calcs came out dead on. We fueled up at the same stations so I new the gallons he was adding.
Any guesses on the Chevy? Winner gets bragging rights.

My 2009 GMC would get about 14 mpg pulling the load behind the Duramax at those speeds and on that terrain. It is 4wd and is otherwise stock with about 90K on the odometer. I would suspect he likely got around what you did (11-12) for pulling that load given the light weight, age of the trucks, four wheel v. two wheel drive, and the aerodynamic advantage of your trailer v. his. There are variables however that may make a comparison difficult (I know you know this but for completeness). First, the weight difference of the trailer would have little to do with the towing economy in your case and would likely not favor a diesel engine unless it were significantly heavier. Your trailer is more narrow and likely significantly more aerodynamic because it appears to tuck behind the truck better. The wide, square stance of the utility trailer is much less aerodynamic therefore dropping economy. I assume your Ecoboost is stock, you did not mention if his Duramax is and also the mileage he may have on it. Also, the side by sides with light bars are not very aerodynamic which also would likely hurt his economy more than yours. I know it may sound silly, but when I pull my big utility trailer v. my more narrow one I can see as much as 2 mpg difference over the same route, unloaded. I also do not get as good of fuel economy pulling my Gator XUV when using the same trailer as a do pulling my TRACTOR with the ROPS down (even though the tractor weighs much more) because the Gator's roll cage and light bar catches air the whole time, as wind resistance is the main contributor to towing mileage so long as the weights of the trailers are reasonably close. Therefore, my opinion is that you likely got similar mileage with these loads due to in part the factors noted but that it may not necessarily imply an Ecoboost is as fuel efficient as a diesel. I know this was not your intent, but some posters may interpret it as such. I should also note your towing mileage is fairly consistent with that I have gotten using my father's Ecoboost, which is also two-wheel drive. You have a nice-looking truck.

I agree, its probably right around 11.5 mpg. I had a 05 Dmax and while I never took it far from home in the 9 months I had it and it rarely got above 60mph towing it seemed to always do right at 13 mpg no matter what.

I avg. 14 mpg towing my L3400 at about 50-60 mph over flat terrain at a steady speed ( no stops) This was according to the computer, which so far has been very close to hand-calculated.

Not too many takers. He got .5 mpg less than I did. His truck does have 150,000 miles but I still expected it to do better. As far as aerodynamics, I think it was close. My trailer definitely had more frontal area and the 4 wheeler in my truck did stick up a little above my cab. I think what hurt him was they had rear windows on both razrs which caught a lot of air.

I have a titan myself and have tested 2 ecoboosts extensively a 353 truck and a 373 truck, and Diamondpilots findings mirror mine.
EB gets about 20% better that a Titan towing about a 7K load. I tow a 9K toyhauler and a 7 K boat and a 4K boat all the time.

The titan and the hemi are actually quite close in performance. with the early nod going to the titan, and the later one tipping just a bit toward the hemi.

Thing is both have to rev up to make their torque but the EB has it on tap right out of et box.

Ecoboost 400lb ft at 1900RPM freeway speed stomps both. Watch it pull up the hill in video three in 6th gear, in 105 degree heat.

In the heat of the desert or at altitude the ecoboost will crush ANY N/A gas truck made today.

The 5.3 is laughable to compare it to, and the Hemi and Titan roar along in third gear up hills while the EB rides 2-3 gears higher the same grades developing full power in the heat and altitude with a cabin so quiet you can carry on normal conversation.

Here is my test of the 7K boat.

Great video's Dave.

So what trucks have you owned? It seems you had a Ram, then a Titan, and I assume now a Eco Boost.
