"In the 40 years since the introduction of high-fructose corn syrup as a cost-effective sweetener in the American diet, rates of obesity in the U.S. have skyrocketed"

Princeton University - A sweet problem: Princeton researchers find that high-fructose corn syrup prompts considerably more weight gain

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) consumption is one of the leading causes of obesity. It's in most all processed food products on the market today AND GUESS WHERE IT COMES FROM?

"In the United States, 85% of the corn being grown is genetically modified, and 70% of processed foods contain genetically modified ingredients without labeling them accordingly3. Statistics released by The National Corn Growers Association show that approximately 80% of all corn grown in the U.S. is used to feed livestock, poultry, and fish—both domestic and overseas, and 12% is added to foods that are either consumed directly (such as corn chips) or indirectly (in the form of high fructose corn syrup products such as imitation table syrup)

Given that the average American consumes eight ounces of meat each day on top of a wide array of heavily processed foods, we are unknowingly eating genetically modified corn at astonishing rates. Especially when the corn used in the production of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is genetically modified, which based on the NCGA data, it most certainly is. But without adequate labeling laws in place to inform consumers about ingredients made with GMOs, it is impossible to be certain."

It is just possible that the population segment now experiencing declining longevity are the canaries in the coal mine. They are the most susceptible to nutrition changes.

Princeton University - A sweet problem: Princeton researchers find that high-fructose corn syrup prompts considerably more weight gain
Photo caption from this article linked by DFB:

"A Princeton University research team [...] has demonstrated that rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup -- a sweetener found in many popular sodas -- gain significantly more weight than those with access to water sweetened with table sugar, even when they consume the same number of calories. The work may have important implications for understanding obesity trends in the United States."

The article is from 2010, I wonder if there have been follow-up experiments to verify these results, or further research. Although the article does say their work corroborated earlier studies.

Corn sweetener and the carb diet it fosters are real evils. The stuff is everywhere and combined with the salt in processed foods probably causes more health problems than a whole bunch of other things combined.

Interesting news... Heavy use of herbicide Roundup linked to health dangers-U.S. study | Reuters

I'm not sure where "but there is no hazard to GM crops." Comes from. I've heard that it's inconclusive because not many long term studies have been done.

I have always thought that all pesticides should be restricted to licensed applicators. I see no reason why any bozo can go to Wally World and buy weed killer or insect killer.

As for long term studies, do you have any idea how long GM crops have been in use? It's been almost 30 years now. What's your idea of "long term?" A century?

I dont know how this can be graphed into overall life expectancy at all yet since the most of the gene splicing technology like BT insect protection has only recently been introduced into the food chain. Other technologies over a couple of decades at best. I think the genectic roulette documentry raises some valid questions especially when it comes to what is fed to livestock. Obviously its a personal choice to either try learn what exactly is the real truth is or simply choose to ignore it

Starlink was withdrawn from use in 2000, and no bT proteins have been detected in US corn stocks since 2003. You have been victimized by frankenfoodie fud.

Thanks that is the fact for the starlink enzyme.

From wikpedia "The US corn supply has been monitored for the presence of the Starlink Bt proteins since 2001. No verified positive test for the protein for dry milling have been found since 2003."

Starlink was an unapproved gm corn for human consumption thaat somehow found its way into the food systen

Although Starlink was withdrawn from the market Bt corn is continues on in the food system. Attribute sweet corn is the most recent form

It can be found in most major seed supply catalogs

ATTRIBUTE insect-protected hybrids are sweet corn varieties that have been genetically enhanced to provide strong protection against damage by European corn borers, corn earworms and fall army worms. These hybrids carry a gene that enables them to produce the same insect control protein as Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) . When target insects consume a small amount of plant tissue from an ATTRIBUTE insect-protected hybrid, the Bt protein binds to their digestive systems causing them to stop feeding and die within 48 hours.

Yes, GMOs have been around many years, but I'm aware of no long term "studies." We are just guinea pigs right now.
