My Saturn burns about the 1 qt per 600 or so. But you only see smoke when it starts cold when you start off. Or if you floor it and drop into passing gear while on the road while going within a few thousand revs of redline.

That's a good sign of having bad valve seals.

I saw no smoke with mine either but you could smell it and it took out cat converters ever 60,000 miles.

be glad.. my 2000 yukon has been using oil to the tune of a quart per 1km since nearly new.. :(

Now I know why you use supertech oil. If I bought it new,I would have returned it

long story, but i personally wasn't the original purchaser. the co i work for bought it new, it was a truck for one of the corporate exec's. he left the company when the vehicle was about 1.5ys old. ( maybee a lil less? dunno.. it was 12ys ago.. ) they were going to sell it, and asked if anyoine at the co wanted to instead take over payments. I chose to do so. they had made a good down payment on it, nad it's loan value was quite lower than the vehicles appraised value.

it was still low milage, good condition.. was not a 'work' truck' but one of one of the boss's to tool around in. it didn't go home on the weekends.. so it was minty fresh. It was getting regular maintenance at the dealership it was bought from.. part of the deal I guess. ( 2 yrs oil changes.. etc. ). When I got it.. I just finished out it's oil change coupons in the book. it had a couple lefct.. they were doing something like 3k oil changes. At that time.. I din't know it was using that much oil. it was going in low and my guess is that the were over filling it. once i started doing my own maint on it at the end of the year I was then able to see the VAST oil usage that Gm had pawned off on me. The co didn't even know about the oil usage. dealer wasn't telling us... they were letting the thing get old enough to get out of any 'lemon' issues I'm guessing.

anyway... yeah.. I have a low opinion of gm and that's a big constituant of it. If mine was a 'one of' it would be a lil different.. except i've heard from sooooo many other owners experiencing the EXACT same thing, and the quote of just how much oil burning is normal.. that i know it's NOT a one-of issue... :(

I would have to pawn it off on someone. Over 1 qt of oil in a mile is insane.Drive 15 miles and add 16 qts of oil .No way I could make myself keep it.Wonder if all of them burned this much oil or just the 1 you were lucky enough to get ?

1km.. not 1 mile.

and because of that. I can't bring myself to pawn it off on somebody else. I'll just run it till it has a major failure and then junk it. it's been long paid for... so right now.. it is just costing me fuel and insurance and bi weekly 'oil changes'. It starts and runs.

most of the guages have died.. plenty of the plastic trim on the interior has broken the retaing clips off as they have had to have been removed SOOOOOOOO many times to fix things... etc. it's sideswiped a fece gate or two thanks tot he wife.. and had a few shopping carts leave bee stings on it from parking lots.

again. it starts and runs.. no sputters or anything. tranny shifts good. 4wd is flaky.. 99% of the time not working.. etc.

untill it hits an ac, engine or trans failure.. i'll keep it. At this point i won't be doing any 1000$ repairs on it.. that's where i have fixed it's price/value point at.

i have 2 other trucks a year older than it that are in better condition.. f350 and f450.

1km.. not 1 mile.

just to make sure there isn't a typo or something, are you really telling us that the engine in this vehicle uses a quart of oil in 1 kilometer? as in you drive 1 kilometer and then have to add a quart of oil? i wouldn't have thought that was even possible.

I really don't get this..I've owned nothing but GM's for the past 30 years and have never, ever had one that burned oil beyond a quart or less (mostly less) over 3,000-4,000 miles. The last one that even leaked was a '76 GMC 350 from back in the days when everything leaked from the valve covers.

Back in the late 60's to late 70's when I worked in a Chev dealer as a heavy repair mechanic I overhauled hundreds of big block engines that burned a quart or more of oil every week, my own vehicle included. The problem GM had back then was the chrome moly rings they used were too hard to seat. After putting new rings in about 50 engines, I suggested using Hasting Rings(HR) because I had used them in my own vehicle and they completely cured my 1qt per week oil consumption problem. They were softer rings and would seat within 100-200 miles or so. GM finally gave the go-ahead to use HR because even the engines that were overhauled were still using way too much oil and they were getting overwhelmed with customer complaints. Well, after about 2 years, GM put the brakes on using the HR - Reason they gave us was they cost about $4.00 more per engine than the rings they were previously using. :confused2:
