I have a leaky hydraulic pump on my old 1964 Davis trencher.
Looks like the front seal might be the problem.
Not sure of the pump mfg or model.
It develops pressure, isnt noisy.. just leaks..

Is the front seal replaceable (by me)..?
I have limited hydraulic experience.
I have rebulit engines, seals on gear boxes, etc.

Any idea on pump mfg?
Suggestions on place to get rebuild kit?

Thanks,
Dan

Clean that pump up a little, and you might see some letters or numbers.

Wire brush, solvent, etc.

Look on the pump flange.

Looks like an old Cessna (Eaton) with a priority flow rear cover (the model code should be stamped on the mounting flange)

Seal is replaceable, you'll need to pull it apart to check out the wear plates on the inside, shaft and housing for wear

Thanks guys for the inputs.
I removed some paint on flange and found the following part numbers: "B20233 0cpZ" & "4 52 rs"
I can't find any references to these numbers.. Any clues?

Is there a symbol representing a company, or a large letter to represent a company.

I don't readily see any symbols or letter.. It looks like it was painted twice, so I'd have to strip to find it.
I had to use paint remover to see the part numbers on the flange..

I believe those are Cessna / Eaton numbers. Eaton purchased Cessna years ago and this product could be considered obsolete. Like wdchyd said. Yes you can typically replace the shaft seal. Concern would be why is it leaking? Just wore out from age, shaft damaged, excessive wear on gear wear plates allowing excessive leakage which over pressurizes the seal, etc..

Thanks for the inputs,
I just acquired this machine recently and dont know much of the history.

I am tempted to take it off and apart and look for seal, but I am concerned in doing so, I wont be able to locate seal, gaskets, other wear parts..Then be stuck with a pump which leaks even worse.
The machine works great now, and I can use it for my projects and dump the machine, and just keep topping off the hyd fluid.
But, I sure would like to fix the leak.

I have had no luck in identifying the pump specifics. I have 4-5 hydraulic places, and they all say sorry... no parts.. I suppose they dont really want to bother with it. I could take the pump to local hydraulic shop for their inputs.

Anyway I am rambling.. If I knew specs, maybe I could look for replacement..

Oh I recently found out about speedi sleeves from another web site.. Looks interesting idea to "repair" worn shaft
