Neighbor called the Law on me for shooting

As a forester this one really gets me!!!


WHAT the heck does it matter if the trees cut on your place build your house or someone elses?? ...

They did not want the trees cut because they are tree huggers and cutting a tree is evil in their eyes.

They also did not like that I had put a cable across the road to prevent their access which mostly stopped their dumping waste on my land. When we bought the place, the road had not been maintained and was impassible due to trees growing in the road. I cleared out those trees with a chainsaw, a brush cutter, and when I got a tractor, I pulled up the stumps. When the road was reopened they liked to walk down my road and use the land. Of course not one of them helped or even offered to help me reopen the road and the people trying to use my land for free never even introduced themselves to me...

One Saturday I was working along the road which we and the bank own. The road is completely on my land. My truck was pulled off to the side to try to find some shade and I was running the chainsaw in the woods. I was working on the chainsaw using the truck gate as a workbench when two older ladies walked right past me with out even making eye contact. They walked within six feet of me and did not even give me the time of day as they walked up my road into my land. :confused3::shocked:

Now this is was not only rude but stupid and dangerous. The road is a dead end. At the time the nearest house was a good 1500 feet away and these ladies walked right passed me not knowing who the man was at the only way out of those woods. Stupid.

When they came back we had a little chat about their behavior.

The bottom line of whoever called the sheriff about the timbering was they hated timber operations and they wanted to use my land for free. Which is what they had done for decades before the road became impassible. They also did not want the view to change.

They were danged lucky we bought the place. I know for a fact there were timber companies trying to buy the land and they would have clear cut the place before selling off to a developer.

I prefer to live and let live, but have haf to call the cops on 1 of my mom's neighbors for shooting. But they were firing onto other people's properties without permission with everything from 7.62 to .50cal big boy rifles through light woods at most with no idea if someone/something was on the other side of them. 1side is a large cattle far, the other is mostly empty property. I have occationally been on both properties dealing with hogs and coyotes with the respective owners permission. Also had to repair damage to fences they've caused. I don't care if they're shooting as long as it is reasonable and done in a safe matter. They just have a very poor idea of safety and like to threaten to shoot people.

The reason I have a "gun chip" on my shoulder is because I and every other gun owner are under constant attack from from the left trying to disarm us. You can put what ever spin you want on it, but that is the truth. Dave of course I take my neighbors rights into account before engaging in my activities. But when a neighbors desire for me not to shoot simply because they do not "approve" of shooting conflicts with my legal right to shoot at a reasonable time of day then that is "too bad". There are plenty of things that other people do that I don't "approve" of but I keep my nose out of their business and I expect them to keep their nose out of mine. And I stand by my previous statement 100% on the noise of activities that you do not approve of are so much more bothersome than activities that you do approve of.

i REALLY hate people that think that their rights to quiet (show me that in the constitution) superseded my rights to have a gun (which IS in the constitution). Its amazing that the US govt wants to take away our guns, but feels it has to arm Syria.

The anti-freedom aspect that this neighbor is exhibiting may be anti-gun, but it need not be. He may just hate the noise. But it is anti-freedom regardless, since he is lying to the law to cause bothersome visits designed to coax LD1 into modifying legal behavior.

Well, that took a turn for the worse. I hate it when threads turn political. I don't disagree with you, but I prefer to keep politics out of good conversations because things always good to he|| in a hurry after that.

You haven't been around long enough to realize that a lot of these threads about neighbors go south one way or the other without any mention of politics.

People who have problems with their neighbors and feel compelled to write about it on the Internet provide a lot of entertainment for those of us who get along with our neighbors.

Give me a break, James, only a hypocrite thinks their own freedom is more important than the freedoms of others. You have no response to my comment that when noise pollution leaves your property, you may be limiting the pursuit of happiness of your neighbors. I'm all for freedom, yours, mine and everyone's.

Approval has nothing to do with it. Pollution is pollution. You have the freedom to do as you wish on your property, what freedom do you have to pollute the property of others, or force them to share your "freedoms?"

As long as the OP is operating within the confines of the law, his neighbor can pound sand. I get pretty damned tired of these citiots moving to the country and thinking they can impose their will on others.
These people have decided that country living is comprised of sitting by a babbling Brook drinking wine and communing nature in the peace and quiet. Some of us moved to the country to be able to shoot our guns and pee off of the porch. I live on 160 acres and if my neighbors can hear my gunfire and it bothers them, they should move. I've lived here for 25 years, I was here first. I don't care if it disturbs them. There's a rail line about three miles from my house. When the trains cross the county roads, they blow their horns. At night when the windows are open, The noise wakes me up. I don't expect the trains to stop blowing their horns because it annoys me.
Why should someone expect me to stop doing something, within the confines of the law, because it bothers them.
These self righteous jerks seem to think the world belongs to them and everyone should capitulate to their wishes.
I have some of these morons living close to me (within a mile).I tried to make peace with them and limit the shooting to reasonable hours. That wasn't enough, they kept pushing and pushing.
Recently I put lights on my pistol range so I can shoot at night.
These *** clown need to move back to the suburbs where they belong.

Every year we have a "shoot the car" party. I buy a junk car, drive it to my rifle range and my friends and like minded neighbors come over and we attempt to cut it in half. We normally have 30-40 shooters and shoot from 10am until dark. The first salvo is always the best. everyone lines up empties whatever they brought into the car. The shooting is non stop all day.We have lots of food and after the shooting is over lots of beer.
A couple of years ago, one of the cidiots called the sheriff's dept to complain. The deputy who showed up was a friend of mine. He stayed, had lunch and even shot a little. During the time the deputy was here, the complaining neighbor and his wife drove by. The look on their faces was priceless. I think it was at that moment that they realized they weren't in control.
All in all, it was a very good day.
Unfortunately, with the current price of ammo, we probably won't shoot a car this year. Maybe I'll do two next year.
