Trailer mishap

Yep, goosenecks suck for cornering. I am finding that out now after using mine a few times.

You always hear alot of folks talk about how GN's are more maneuverable, well...they are and they arent. It is nice cause you can jacknife them around and get into some tighter areas than a bumper pull would, but overall maneuverability....I thing the GN is worse. They cut things really short, and arent nearly as responsive when backing.

I am wondering why they needed such a large trailer for golfcarts though?? I would think a 20' bumper pull with the carts 2 wide would have been much better?? Did they have a different driver to get into the place??

20'? Looking at the first picture, I count 7 canopies, if each cart is 7' long, a 20' deck BP would have allowed carrying 6 of them (if lucky) but not the 7th.

Yea, I guess you are right. I actually count 9 of them now.

I didnt see that they had them 2 wide already. I only saw 5 at first glance and thought that trailer was a bit ovekill.

I guess I was wrong.

Looking at the map if he had taken it wide in the corner before the bridge he would have been fine but that would have required paying attention and thinking ahead. Sometimes companies don't think they have to pay extra for that.

I got a chuckle out of your comment Al - not trailer related, but I've seen "a few" companies operate that way. I think I actually started a "Because it's cheaper......." thread on here somewhere. Enough drifting.

I've never owned or pulled a GN yet. Interesting reading here.... the fizx described makes sense, vs. a bumper pull..... adding this to my really watch-the-mirrors-when-pulling-something-new mental file.

Yes. GN and BP both have good points but for me I will never own another GN for the reasons mentioned above and the loss of my bed.

I've pulled bp, gn, and 5th wheel the gn and 5th wheel pull almost identically. They all have their uses . The gn takes a lot less bed space than a 5th wheel setup and you can get a hide a hitch to free up everything when you aren't towing. That driver didn't anticipate the track of the trailer or pay attention while turning to stop before getting stuck.

I have had a 37' fifth wheel camper for 10 years and just got a 28 GN. The camper is more intuitive because you see this big box behind you and necessary precautions are taken when cornering. With the GN, it is easy to forget they are in back of you and cutting corners happens easily. I came close to clipping a couple cars who like to poke their nose out by stop signs.

The trick with the gooseneck/5[sup]th[/sup] wheel is to drive straight forward as far as one can imagine, then crank the wheel hard. But a narrow road, sharp curve, and a bridge or unmarked culvert could catch one by surprise.

The gooseneck/5[sup]th[/sup] wheel has a much better weight distribution than a bumper pull, although anti-sway bars can help considerably. And the wedge trailers might be nice as they would save a few feet of length.

I guess the question is whether this is a dedicated trailer/rig for hauling golf carts, or if it is a car hauler that occasionally picks up a few golf carts. If dedicated to the golf carts. Are they 7' long? I'd probably build a custom side load trailer with movable ramps.

good idea, or one could build a smaller scale commercial car hauler, the over and under kind could certainly haul as many carts with having a shorter trailer,

Now that is a lot of golf carts.
Is that for an executive retreat, where the execs can't be bothered to walk to the keg (ummm... mini-bar).

Perhaps the 2-wide and side-load carts are taking about the same space on that trailer.

Personally, I don't like towing extra wide trailers with a pickup or small vehicle (8.5 foot?) A narrow, extra tall trailer would not be fun to tow either.
