Neighbor attacked by Pit Bulls

Makes me wonder why more people dont carry more often. Oh wait, I need to put on my Left Wing common since eliminator hat. That evil gun killed the poor defenseless animals that only wanted to practice their chewing rights. :/
Really glad someone was able to help your neighbor, I do agree that any dog can/will bite. Pits are often just meaner than other similar sized dogs and I been around a lot of different breeds myself. I have Husky-Lab mix laying on the floor now. he SOUNDS like a total bad butt but he just dont bark, he is a grumbler-growler tones but in a talkative way. At 70 lbs not real big and all love bug & that is how he was raised. As a puppy we raised him to share food, share bones and treats. In fact he will bring a rawhide chew to trade for a treat lol (he knows he will get both back anyway.)

My GF was pinned in the corner of our porch by two ST Bearnards a few years back they belonged to the house 3 down. Just luckly the neighbor between saw/heard her hollering for help. The dogs knew the neighbor and listened to them and let my GF get back inside. These people they were the typical inner city types that kept getting big breed dogs and failed to train them at all or made them just mean for fun of it. They cops ended up taking both dogs & putting them down (they were called when they came after my GF) and the 3rd incident involved a little kid out in the back ally. Luckily the kid wasn't mauled & only scratched up and terrified for a while.

To the OP you did good job, though I agree maybe something a LOT better/bigger than a .380 if there are bears around!!!

Wow lucky you were both nearby and armed or that could have ended very badly. Probably a good reson to carry on the tractor. Makes me think maybe I should be carrying when outside in the yard (usually I don't). Pretty scary!

Nice going Tim.....you saved this man's life. Hope for the best in your neighbors recovery. This dog owner should be held accountable......I am betting he does not carry adequate insurance....just a hunch.

The black bears in PA reach over 700 lbs. That is a lot of animal to stop.

Most bears will run the other way when confronted. I know the 380 is inadequate against a bear but I am not trying to take it down if need be I have a shotgun at the ready in the house. The 380 is more to give me time to retreat rather than take it on, or scar it enough that it takes off. I am more concerned that my little dog that is tied up in the yard will attract a bear or coyote or perhaps some stray dogs like what happened today. If those dogs did not attack my neighbor they were heading towards my place and I or my dog would have been their next available target.

Call your attorney NOW.

Why? The OP suffered no damages except possibly some PTSD. He broke no laws.

What legal liability could he have?

You are a Hero!
Well done!
It's a shame about the old man. Hopefully the owner can pay his medicall bills then go to jail.
I can't understand why people keep a dog like that. Guard dogs make sense, but only under special circunstances.........thier not pets. Thier not to be trusted and must be handeled correctly

Just talked to the neighbors wife, he is doing better. The wounds on his leg were so bad they could not close them and will most likely have to do plastic surgery and skin grafts to close the wounds.

Don't even go there. While I agree that the owner is responsible for his pet's actions; his first error was in creating a demand for the breed.

Owner's first error is HE is likely an IDIOT! It is evidenced by his lack of keeping his dog confined to home, not having it neutered, having it loose with a collar not designed to be worn, except in training/handling situations, etc., etc. It is too bad that people like that are allowed to breed. But, we can't legislate against stupidity. If I were betting, I'd say this owner is stupid in many other facets of life too, NOT just maintaining his dog(s).

And one can tell from my avatar, I am not a Pit owner. Why would anyone want anything BUT a Beagle? :D
