Neighbor attacked by Pit Bulls

/ Neighbor attacked by Pit Bulls #141
I have been in the ER or at the scene of a dog attack and heard this three times (my dog has never done that before). The fourth time I heard it was when my Nephew was attacked by a German Shepard as my Nephew walked through a friends front door. The dog went by the dogs owner, my brother and attacked my Nephew. Neither had been to that house before. Over a hundred stitches in his scalp.

I don't want detract from the thread, but did you guys ever come up with a plausible explanation as the why the dog did that, or is it still a complete mystery?

Or it could be the owner was a total idiot. Considering he had TWO dogs loose at that age, chances are my guess is more accurate than yours.

Going with your line of thinking, anyone wearing a suit makes at least 100k a year.

It's the same comparison as putting a "Vicious Dog" or "Beware of Dog" warning on your front gate. I have seen a number of $$ settlements because that factored in as the owner was aware of the danger of their dog in light of intruders or visitors.

And, no a suit doesn't guarantee anything any more than a collar signifies anything. But variations within that concept can certainly profile the participants involved. An attorney could ask you the question on the stand..." Would you say that the dog collar in question would generally be considered suitable for a dog with behavioral issues and that the owner might have been sufficiently concerned to want an extra hold on the animal?" As you start to explain he says to answer yes or no and with one word only and the judge agrees. Of course the answer is yes because of the question but you get a one word answer and that answer has to be yes.

Mis-identification of Pitts is common.

Pet Pitbull - Find the Pit Bull

Ya.. every time a dog attack is reported, its always claimed to be a pit bull in the news. When its later said not to be, no one makes the correction. We already know the 'statistics' on pit bull bites is inflated due to this.

I remember growing up when we were all suppose to be in dire fear of roaming packs of rottweilers snatching babies from mothers arms...

Two dogs, together, roaming without human supervision, is a pack hunting. They found prey and attacked in pack mentality to render prey dead. Victim saved by heroic effort of conscientious neighbor, who stood his ground and averted a potentially fatal outcome for the victim and himself.

People who want to own certain breeds of canines ought to have to take a course of rigorous training and obtain a license to own a dog of potentially highly aggressive characteristics. In addition, they should be held completely liable for any attack by the animal on human or other animal, as part of their license to own a lethal weapon.

End of story, case closed.

CM out
Being held responsible should be for EVERY owner of ANY animal... If a horse gets out and runs over a baby, whos responsible?

And if you had a good attorney, the one word "yes" response to the question on hand could easily be refuted.

Per the OP's story, the dogs owner really sounds like a bonehead who shouldn't own dogs. He might get a slap on the wrist or perhaps spend some money, but the real sad thing is he'll probably get some more dogs.

Any dog of size or power always has my respect. Funny enough, the only two times I've ever been bitten by dogs, they both couldn't of been more than 10lbs combined LMAO

Foolish, IMO just opening the door for legal problems. There are plenty of other breeds available that aren't capable of killing people.

EVERY dog is capable of killing... every single one.

Oh come on now. I have 2 pugs that combined couldn't kill a piss ant.

:laughing:And our overweight 7.5 year old Chihuahua hasn't learned to growl yet, much less bite anyone, or kill anything.

Here is just one more scenario, and a true story. A lady has a Golden Retriever that is a "Therapy Dog", TD. The dog has been through training and also passed Canine Good Citizen (CGC) testing. Dog is one one of its last visits to the Children's Hospital, before it retires. Dog has made the trip at least once a week, sometimes more often, for 5 years. The ill kids pet the dog, pull its tail, try to climb on the dog, etc., as children can do. Everything is perfect, and kids are happy and dog is having a great time. Owner takes the dog home, and when the dog jumps from the vehicle, owner accidently shuts the door on the dog's tail. Before woman can get the door open to free the tail, the dog has become aggressive, and the lady lost her arm, due to the dog attacking it, even though she was just trying to get the door open to free the tail.

Yes, every dog can become aggressive, and kill or maim. It just takes the right circumstances.
