I had a number of dogs, but gravitated toward Golden Retrievers because there demeanor is generally calm. I had one tied to a chain to a dog house and we had some friends come over. A 3 or 4 year old kid went over to play with the dog and the dog snarled at the kid and that worried me. That was it for the dog. No second chances for a dog by my place.
Just think if Tim wasn't armed. He probably would have tried to help anyway and he would have ended up being mauled. I have no use for mean dogs, ever.

I feel sorry for any child hurt due to the stupidity of their parents. Don't get me wrong, accidents BEYOND your control can happen, but how does a 2 year old "slip and fall" around a mower without her father seeing it? Perhaps we make it agasin't the law for a child under the age of 5 to be within 10 yards of a riding mower? I do love how the article states that this accident could of happened to anyone. Perhaps, but only if your a moron.

Sad to say, it's usually people with common sense who have to suffer with laws designed to "protect us from ourselves" due to stupidity.

On that note, I don't care how well trained my dogs are. A child is NEVER to be left with a dog unsupervised (and sometimes that's for the dog's sake as well).

I've got to ask, what did the kid do, and was the dog normally tied to a chain?

Regarding small dogs taking big bites, on my arm right now the scar is still visible 60 years after a small cocker spaniel bit me. Sure seemed like a small enough dog but I got five stitches. I can still see the needle holes and it doesn't look like a very good suture job. The first of many stitches... :laughing:

Yes, any dog can bite. But some are worse than others and pit bulls are the worst of the worst.
