And increase those odds if you have idiots for parents.

Just came across this story...

Parents Of Toddler Injured In Lawn Mower Accident Speak Out

I feel sorry for any child hurt due to the stupidity of their parents. Don't get me wrong, accidents BEYOND your control can happen, but how does a 2 year old "slip and fall" around a mower without her father seeing it? Perhaps we make it agasin't the law for a child under the age of 5 to be within 10 yards of a riding mower? I do love how the article states that this accident could of happened to anyone. Perhaps, but only if your a moron.

Sad to say, it's usually people with common sense who have to suffer with laws designed to "protect us from ourselves" due to stupidity.

On that note, I don't care how well trained my dogs are. A child is NEVER to be left with a dog unsupervised (and sometimes that's for the dog's sake as well).
When on my tractor I MUST look around before backing as one of my grandkids will most likely be there, head down, not paying attention. They seem to always follow me around looking to get ran over. And they are 9 and 12!

EVERY dog is capable of killing... every single one.

It is true, my wife's 4.5 lb Chihuahua likes to kill bees even though she is allergic to the stings. She hates having Benadryl popped down her throat afterwards but she keeps doing it anyway. She is a killer without regard.

Truer words were never spoken and given your background you should add that as your signature.
One reason tnat I have labs is because of their gentle demeanor; but still things happen. Even while playing an 80 pound dog can accidentally hurt a 50 pound kid.

Way back when I was a youngun', my grandfather used a bulldog named Jam-up to work his cows. I was six when my grandaddy died, but I can remember my granny getting Jam-up and Pa a bowl of ice cream every night. The other thing that stands out is us taking cows to the sale. We didn't have any stock trailers back then. The cows were loaded into the bed of the truck. Jam-up would ride on top of the cab going to the sale. Then ride in the truck bed on the way back home.
Dogs are like people. The vast majority are average, with a few really good and really bad ones. The good ones need to be praised. The bad ones put down.

Man I saw that list back a few pages and HUSKIES were on there! Mine is the biggest BABY when it comes to people but other critters he is too happy and runs up to them if they act aggressive he returns it about 10 fold. Mostly woodchucks, opossums and Squirrels but a young PIT was running around the neighborhood. It was maybe Pit/Boxer mix not much more than maybe 6 months old. I was out walking and my husky-lab when it barked at us and acted aggressive. needless to say when BEAR growled a rather low really mean sounding one the Pit-Boxer mix turned stubby tail and ran :D as he was running away my bear was still all fluffed out and tail wagging... :D;)

Across the street & 1 house down is a BIG LAB-Newfoundland mix that is about as gentile as can be & probably 140lbs. His owner is maybe 90lbs with her winter coat on. It is almost comical when he wants to go pee on the stop sign she does not stop him even with choker collar. My 70lb Husky lab wiggles his tail wanting to go say hi all time but I try & keep him away from other dogs just due to his attitude towards 4legged critters. That and I think the Lab-Newfie would flatten his butt without much issue...

On the Mower Issue and kids, when I was in high school I worked in a small barn/garage doing auto body. The Owner & boss was a OTR Driver (hotshot/hot foot) driver. His dad did the same and lived on other side of the road. My boss had a boy who was 4 or 5 at the time and was riding shotgun on the grandads riding mower across street, he fell off and his foot was run over by the deck. The mower blades cut his tennis shoe right in half, his toes and 1/3 of the front of his foot was sticking out. It didn't break the skin on his foot. Even now I don't know HOW but I was there when it happened, I ran over with a rag to stop bleeding on what was surly a cut off foot. Nope it ended up bruised pretty good but no broken bones or missing piggies! He was taken to local hospital, me driving as his granddad was too shaken up. Boy foot was x-rayed given a sucker and we were heading home & the boy was walking just fine leaving the doc. Still now 30+ years later when I hear a mower hit something I get that feeling in my gut...

Yes, any dog can bite. But some are worse than others and pit bulls are the worst of the worst.

As I said previously, insurance companies often refuse to insure people with what they consider to be dangerous breeds--or mixes. Here are the 11 riskiest breeds, as seen by insurance companies:

Pit Bulls & Staffordshire Terriers
Doberman Pinschers
Rottweilers
German Shepherds
Chows
Great Danes
Presa Canarios
Akitas
Alaskan Malamutes
Siberian Huskies
Wolf-hybrids

I ask again: Why should anyone own a pit bull? I can't see any good reason for it, except maybe for target practice.

We all need our insurance companies telling us what we should and should not do. After all they do have our best interests at heart. There are some very good breeds listed here. We own a couple of these breeds and have done so for over 35 years now. There is a responsibility with dogs like these. That they are raised properly and handled responsibly. If done so they are just good dogs and not monsters. If you have never owned or decided that you never will own one of these breeds listed you might just be missing out on one of the very best dogs that you have ever owned.

I have been in the ER or at the scene of a dog attack and heard this three times (my dog has never done that before). The fourth time I heard it was when my Nephew was attacked by a German Shepard as my Nephew walked through a friends front door. The dog went by the dogs owner, my brother and attacked my Nephew. Neither had been to that house before. Over a hundred stitches in his scalp.

My former secretary's brother is a plastic surgeon. He said a substantial part of his practice was replacing noses and ears, mostly on children, who had been attacked by dogs.

My Husky-Lab mix is best dog I had in 35 years... Only had one as good & he was a Lasaopso-beagle mix.

Not necessarily. I used a prong collar on our Newfy. Sweet dog, just too much power when out walking her (they have been used as draft dogs for logging!) A short while with the prong collar and she became much more enjoyable to walk with.

As for the pit bull breed, I have known people with very sweet and friendly pit bulls. I think the big issue is that some people want and create "big bad mean" dogs out of them. These morons gravitate to these types of breeds to show off their own attempt at a tough image. Those dogs are dangerous. Most others of the breed are not. We have seen the same type of problem with other breeds....German Shepherds, rotties, dobermans, etc.

Personally I don't think the whole breed should be condemned, just those who are handled by mean morons who are looking for a dog to cover their own inadequacies.

Ken

Congratulations. Finally someone with some thing to say that makes some sense.

Nobody knows anything about the owners of the dogs but according to a lot of responders they should be sued and punished. Another would have his neighbors dog disappear if it was a certain breed. With this kind of lynch mob mentality and quick to sue, it is no wonder the world is becoming what it is.

Cheers :drink:
