Neighbor attacked by Pit Bulls

For your information, dogs trained "properly" for dog fighting are trained to kill other animals, not humans. Then again, considering how many idiot people we have living in the United States, I guess you can't even expect people to train dogs correctly.

So, you have an idiot neighbor who doesn't socialize, train, exercise his dog, and who is to blame? Take that pit bull and make it any other dog of size, and you'd have the same scenario. But, because it's a bully breed of some sort, it's automatically put the breed down.

News flash, if you destroy the dog, you might as well ensure that the idiot neighbor NEVER gets a dog again, because guess what? He'll probably get another dog and do the same thing.

The owner is always to blame long term. Any dog can be a danger. Bully dogs can do more damage and are the breeds bad owners gravitate to but that doesn't make the dogs the "problem".

Bingo. Keep dumbing it down and paint with a broad brush and that'll fix ALL our problems . Individual dogs/individual owners, hold them responsible and punish them as harshly as the law allows. However, show up at my door to eliminate my INNOCENT (capitalized to eliminate any error in understanding this) bully bred dogs and you'll have more of a problem than the dogs.

Just returned from a neighborhood BBQ and one of the town supervisors approached me and asked me to attend the next town board meeting on Thursday. Seems she had information that a neighbor had written a letter of complaint about the dogs. In the letter it was stated that the dogs were chained in the yard from 6AM till the evening every day and barked all day. Many have hinted at mistreatment as a cause for the aggression this bit of information only serves to strengthen this argument.

The neighbor is doing better they had him up and in a chair and it looks that they will be sending him home soon with home care.

And HOW would that be a bad thing? :?: I'm opposed to unnecessary laws of any type; yet I would rather see an individual banned from dog ownership than a blanket ban based on breed.

I just posted then deleted a link to a youtube video of some idiot's poor Rottie which was killed by police after the owner was arrested. This thread has diverged immensely from the original post, so if you would like to continue this discussion in a more appropriate venue I will repost the above mentioned link... without my personal opinions on it which caused me to delete it.

I didn't say it would be a bad thing.

That said, wait until your county tries to pass an anti teathering ban (which basically means you can't chain or tie a dog "down"), all **** will break loose and everyone will complain.

Honestly, what I could never understand is if you intend you keep a dog chained up most of the day, why even get a dog to begin with?

We call em mans best friend, but in a lot of cases we sure in heck don't act like they are.

Hey, I feel the same way if you were to come onto my property as well.

Three things you don't mess with, a man's wife, dog and money (in no particular order lol). I've never had an incident with any dog in my possesion, but if I did and the situation warranted it, I'd have no problem putting the dog down. That said, if I ever caught one of my boys mistreating ANY animal (other than killing it for food), they would have a bigger problem than the animal to deal with. Point being if any of my dogs acted mean towards someone, I'd want to know what that someone was doing before hand.

Not everyone.. too many people go to the other extreme and think that tying a dog out at all is bad. Then again too many people think they know what's best for the rest of us in general and would like to control every aspect of our lives... Including how we raise our dogs.

As I've suggested in my last post though we really are digressing and taking away from the OP's thread. Perhaps it's time to take it to elsewhere..

PS; I agree completely with your edit to this; when he can't be with me my dog is inside but has access to his kennel for personal business. Because he goes with me it's often necessary to tie him out; often to a lead attached to the steering wheel of my pickup. Yet I've had many people- OK, many women- who tell me how I need to take better care of my dog. Others-including my vet- have told me that it's too bad many kids don't get the care which my pet does.

Did this complaint happen in the 3-4 days they lived in your neighborhood before the attack, or was this from their previous location?
