3500 Dodge diesel under water. Any Hope for revival?

Stock clutch and transmission are good to 800ft/lbs without abuse if you want to hot rod it.

I have one of the pre-07.5 5.9's. I have had no problems with it other than the clutch. I put a very mild tune on it, and I do not really drive it that hard. But the clutch started slipping almost immediately with the 6 speed. Even towing our 26ft pontoon boat it would slip, I was afraid to even try hauling my tractor with the backhoe and load on it.

Ended up changing the clutch and the flywheel out for a Southbend offering, my wallet is over 1k lighter, but definitely no slip in it...

Axle shaft joints? Like the outter Ujoints I replaced those on the 2nd set of balljoints with greasable ones and man they really improved the steering.

I replaced 2 set of balljoints. Went with a set of Carli Forged special desert racing ones on the last set.

Before I sold it the truck wouldn't keep an alignment and when aligned still pulled, I think I bent the sway bar but got fed up with the truck having minor issues and just sold it and got the toyota. I'm kinda **** so if the power window goes out I get it fixed etc.

On a side note I didn't get the Tundra because I thought it would be more reliable but I just got a pretty decent deal on it and it had brand new 33inch tires on it and really low miles. The Toyota is better designed though, it is almost like comparing a John Deere (Toyota) to a Chinese tractor (Dodge).

True, we had an 09 6.7 6speed shop truck (my business partner owned but I paid for long story :( ). I got some seat time in it a few times and kinda liked it.

Think if I hit the lotto and bought a big ranch I'd get a new SRW 4x4 6.7 with a 6speed for the farm. But just a base model down to crank windows.

I really wish Toyota would build that Hino (Toyota Owned) diesel in them. That would be awesome!!

Actually any pre 2007.5 is pre emission. The 6.7's were where they started with all the DPF and EGR valves. Technically any pre 2004.5 truck has less emissions. Starting in Jan 2005 they started putting cats on the Cummins and they had "in cylinder EGR" which was just cam shaft timing that left a little exhaust in the cylinder after the exhaust stroke. These trucks also added a 3 injection event where the pre 2004.5 trucks had only 2. From a practical point of view, there isn't a lot of difference between them and the emission equipment on the 2005 trucks and later didn't really cause any problems. I also think some of the late 90's trucks may have had cats on them also.

it was January 1 2004 for the '04.5's, NOT '05
ALL of them have emissions on them to some extent. the Commonrail was Cummins' answer to new emissions standards at the time, the '04.5 was also due to emissions('04.5 had a cat among other things) The same thing goes for the '07.5 AND the '13's EVERY evolution of the Cummins engine was due to changing emissions standards.

They had the 48RE for transmissions and if the truck isn't hot rodded, they hold up well. An early 2007 truck (before Jan 2008) is considered by some as the holy grail of the 3rd gen Cummins.
Again off a year, it was Jan 1 2007 for the '07.5's

The truck should only smoke a very little bit at start up, just a puff. The truck should also start within a few seconds of cranking when cold or hot. Long crank times can be a sign of injectors going bad. QUOTE]

long crank times are caused by delay in getting to pressure for injection, the computer won't allow injection until it sees around 5K psi rail pressure. that can be caused by the injectors, rail pressure sensor, relief valve, pump, or even the transfer tubes. if it is injectors, it usually is accompanied by smoke (white and black), stumbling, missing and rising oil level in the crankcase.

The 2005 model went to a metal intercooler which was a lot stronger.

The funny part about owning a diesel is that you have to 'know' your truck. In my 07 I would intermediately have long starts that would throw a random low volt code that would just automatically reset itself after a couple cycles. Rare situation maybe every few weeks and I was in and out of this truck at least 10 times a day and also letting it idle for long periods. Anyway moral to my story was I knew the split second it was trying to hard start and before it did I'd let off the key for a sec and on/off and do it again and it would start perfectly. Probably needed new batteries but I didn't get around that ;) .

Negative, they all used the metal intercoolers(with exception of a short period during the '05 model year that had plastic tanks) all pre and post have aluminum tanks!

Ha, opposite day. Yes you are right it was 05 that they went to a plastic one that was a lot weaker. But they realized the mistake and started putting metal ones back in.
