Luckly I did have the forethoght to have a drain pan within hands reach...

I set out to clean the HST screen on my BX2660 after reading about how to do it on this thread. Since I did not have a number #5 stopper I figured a cork from a wine bottle would work just a well. Un screwd the retainer, pulled the tube out and found out the cork was a 1/4 inch too small! At that point there was nothing I could think of doing as the HST fluid just gushed out. I guess I could have stuck the strainer back in, gone to the hardware gotten the stopper but instead I just let the 12 quarts of fliud drain and did the 400 hour HST change at 175 hours. I had a 5 gallon jug of Super HST in the shop so luckly I was covered for the refill. As with everything, live and learn. On the bright side my first install of the MMM went smothly based on everyones advice, especially hooking up the PTO first with a little extra grease and finess not force.

Vacuum cleaner and an assistant=no spills!!

My plug was also to small the first time I did it. I stuck my thumb or a finger in the hole and saw/felt screen was clean and stuck it back in with maybe a little bit of fluid running down my arm.

When a new owner starts thinking about their service I have to bump this thread again. Well, for you naysayers, I don't have to but I think it's a very informative thread with contributions from many knowledgeable owners and questions from owners that want/need to know about the maintenance of their tractor sooo bumping it again.

The hydro change is simple and easy. Go to it and enjoy it. If you have the brush guard on, it has to come off to slide the hood forward. Not sure hood sides even has to come off, maybe see if you can get your hands inside enough to remove filter with hood sides still on. Hood sides come off really easy if brush guard off or you don't have one. Two hand tight knobs loosen, not remove, just loosen and slide hood sides forward and that's it.

I know this thread is old but just a little tip from my experience sliding the 'cowling' (hood sides) forward. I had to remove the exhaust pipe extension. Attached with a metal hose clamp and it was sticky even after the clamp was loose. Had to put some pretty good force on it to break it free.

I may have this reply earlier in this thread, didn't look. You do not need to mess with hood to change the moil filter. Go to the auto parts store and get the three fingered filter wrench that fits to a 3/8 socket drive w/long extension. Piece of cake. I pulled the hood once in now 800 hrs and moved the fuel filter ahead of the injector pump to down under with the other one. Made a little bracket to mount up tight to the frame. Same hoses work, just reverse them. The hydro strainer creates its own problem. All the ideas in here should work. I just change the fluid each time anyway. That strainer is big so I think the manual schedule is an overkill. I changed the fluid at 50 and 100hrs, ready to do it again for the 800 hr. I change engine oil every 400 hrs also along with the filter.
