Called Morton for Pole Barn...couple of questions

/ Called Morton for Pole Barn...couple of questions #32
two things -- One - sometimes its how you leave a message wanting a service from them. never say you have a few questions. just want a building erected soon. I noticed that any business owner who gets phone calls from me saying I got a couple questions before we build almost never calls me back. It sucks - it kinda like they are cherry picking for simplest and most profitable orders.

Second is the wifi and security thing. The building is not up yet. You have a chance now to trench a line and install couple conduit lines now so you can run a ethernet cable from your home to new building. install a wireless router and setup as a bridge repeater. this way , it wouldnt matter what material you decide to go with. The second conduit you can put the security wire in that fits your current system. more secure and less cumbersome trying to do a wireless thing.

Radioman,

I left the message with the receptionist and told her I was ready to build but need to compare pricing on three different sizes. There are several salesman that work out of the western NC office and I guess it is divided into territories.

The wifi is for my security system. Where the barn/workshop is located in relation to my house would make it hard to run the conduit. I would need to trench under asphalt and a concrete sidewalk.

I have not call Morton back as of today, 7/26. My wife's car had some issues this week and it is time to purchase her a new one. So I will be at the Subaru dealership tomorrow!! Got to take care of the wife first:D

I just hope I don't have to spend the money I have set aside for my building!! I will not finance the building I saved enough to pay cash...

Y'all are forgetting...the economy is so good that most folks just don't need the work.

I experience this all the time....businesses not ever calling back so most of the time I just do it myself.

"need to compare pricing"..... that may be part of the reason for not getting back to you yet.

When farmers have cash they like to spend it on dirt or steel. And with 7 dollar corn, they have lots of cash.

My two cents if you were interested in building you would have had multiple quotes by now and would forget about doing business with a company/someone that does not want your money or care about the customers.

As you say you want to do some of the work yourself, buy a kit or design your own and use your buddies to help on the stuff you cant do by yourself like the floor. I have added on to my shop and where I bought my steel from, they offered a plan, I told them what I was doing and they said it was a overkill but after severe wind/tornado storms its still standing. My house has been damaged, trees broken neighbor lost their lean etc.... My wife helped me some with the four handed work and I did rest of the work myself setting the poles to screwing down the steel cost around 2k for materials and rental man-lift. Took about 5 days to add a 50 x 14 lean to not real hard work but it was HOT.

Just hook up a repeater for your wi-fi.

Well, lets see. I have cash in hand to build, I work 50 hours a week and farm 2 acres of produce which I sell during the week and at the Farmers market on weekends. I have asked for quotes from Armstrong Steel, Morton, and a local Pole Barn builder.

I have all but ruled out Armstrong, the local guy had to go out of state for 1-2 weeks due to a death in the family, and I am waiting on Morton to call back. I don't know how much more interested I could be.:confused2::confused:

I also chose my battles as to the time I can allot to them. Building myself with friends was and is still an option. But right now I do not have time available to do this.

I will not finance, I want to pay cash. That is one reason I am looking at 3 different sizes. Build what I want now or build smaller and add on later.

I don't care if it is built this month, Christmas, or January 2014 so if it takes Morton 2 more weeks to get back with me no big deal. Of course they may lose out to the local guy.

Of course now I may push the build out a couple of months, it just depends. I bought my wife a car this weekend since hers was giving lots of trouble, and used part of my building money for this.:(:D

I had the money a couple of years ago and my son could not get a dorm room in college so it went to pay apartment rent, my wife needed a car, so now part of it has gone to that. No big deal, my family's needs come before my wants or needs.

My point about Morton is. I am in Aerospace sales and if someone calls inquiring about our services I call them back that day. Even if I can't get by to see them for a week or two. A simple call from Morton would help there salesman decide if I was worth a trip. Cash in hand, ready to build...I think he would show up.

I think you have waited long enough, no matter what their reason is. Call again and explain what has happened. If they don't bend over backwards to get to you fast, go up the ladder and call the home office in Illinois and let them know your story.

Maybe I need to get a sales job with Morton. I'm sure they get their fair share of looky loo customers. (Not saying you are 1 of them).
