Inconsiderate Idiots at the gas station

The subject was not my Roomate. He was living in my Dorm. BTW, how do you ascertain that I want to control Women. You are definitely out of Line on this one.

Do you know what the word "maybe" means? Look it up and re-read the post.

Part of the point of the fortune cookie was....

"Well, if you (speaking generically, not Sguy particularly) go to a small congested gas station at a busy time of day, then what the __________ do you expect ?"

D.

your post assumes one can control time of day one needs fuel, and where they will be. both involve manipulation of variables that may be out of the operators control.

IE.. bos says drive truck X to job Y at hour Z, take route Q because it is best for time and our fuel estimates we bid the job with.

during that treck, the operator has very very little control, including fuel level in the vehicle at start.

the thin framework of 'don't go to a busy station' falls way short on many, many, many real world situations.

You know what's funny? While you're sitting there waiting, fuming, etc, those people are probably thinking to themselves, "AH HA!!! I *FINALLY* got him back.. I FINALLY made the guy in the slow @#$@#$ tractor wait on ME instead! It's so nice to finally turn the tables on him. I've been stuck behind so many @#$@#$@ tractors on the road... Why can't those people do something else with those tractors that only go 8 miles an hour? they have no, none, nada, business on the public road."

Or you could go to a State of Ohio license bureau. The Jedi masters of rudeness. Last time I was there I read a sign on the wall that said "Please check your license after it is printed. There will be an $8.00 fee for correcting it. Even if it is our fault."

There used to be a lady at the one in Union county that would order you to leave if your cellphone rang even if you were sitting in the waiting area. If you challenged her authority she would call the sheriff, watched it happen one day. I can understand not using you cellphone at the counter, and leaving it on vibrate., but??

Some of the license bureaus in Ohio are independent contractors, and you can tell a difference locally depending on who is in charge.

Are you talking about the people waiting behind the tractor or the people waiting to get to the diesel pump? As that was my point exactly. This knife cuts both ways. People on this thread are advocating blocking access to other pumps or blocking people in to 'teach those people a lesson'. Maybe the reason they can't get to the diesel pump is because the non-diesel people are 'teaching those diesel people a lesson'. Can't we all just get along?

Well, I often barely keep on top of what is supposed to happen in my day, so I certainly won't presume to have a clue about yours :).

If your perception is that you have that little influence and control over your environment, then yes, you are definitely correct.

I don't drive commercially, but know well people who do. I can't see any of them playing along with not being able to influence departure fuel level - that's just crazy.

Your description says a lot about your boss - makes Friday afternoon that much more appealing.

Enjoy the weekends,

Without somebody directing behaviour, some people are lost. This thread has me reflecting on what I see done well at Costco gas stations here

- there is a single defined entrance, from there you fan into dedicated lines for a pump.
- pump hoses are long enough that they will reach the other side of the vehicle, at least for cars, and some trucks
- the lot layout makes it very difficult for somebody to parachute in to a queue
- they pay an employee to walk the lot at all times, dealing with any snags as they come up
- very stripped down islands - no squeegee, no towels, no groceries to buy
- a single defined exit. Only one way in, and one way out, unidirectional traffic

The nearest Safeway to where I work has a gas station, it's pushed up against the edge of the parking lot so to normal people it's obvious that it's meant to be uni-directional but impatient people still will pull around against the flow if their gas tank is on the other side, then others see that and line up behind them blocking the exit. The management refuses to enforce a one-way flow so it ends up a cluster.

remember.. that guy working at 'quick-oil-change-place' couldn't get a job at walmart or mcdonalds. so now he's responsible for putting oil in your car after he drains it.. and you hope he does. and does't strip anything.

yuo also have less control of actual oil being used and filter products.

does he clean stuff good? or knock dirt into the oil fill?

does he overtorque filters?

i always used to do all my and my wifes vehicel service. a couple of summers ago.. work got more time consuming, adn a few times i let the wife take hers to 'quickie-car damage and oil changes'. up untill then.. I was very familiar with that oil drain plug it was perfect. I never put in a drain plug that is the least rounded or damaged. too cehap to not replace, and no reason to cause a problem next time fighting a rounded plug.

thus my wrench was the last one on that plug before quickchange.. first time she comes back from quickchange they charged her an extra 5 to repalce the damaged oil drain plug.

imho.. that's a scam to get more $$ OR the moron in the pit that didn't qualify to run a spatula DID strip the oil drian plug.

either way. I ended that short foray into letting someone else wrench on my stuff except my mechanic for the very few things i can't do.

The extra $5 was to replace the oil drain plug that they damaged.
