Also, the EPA and CAFE standards here give two totally different MPG.. with CAFE being much more. That new 54.5mpg goal is a CAFE standard and is actually 34-36mpg in 'real world' EPA estimates.

The EU figures must be the same thing..

The cleanest diesel on the planet is Swiss, but does not generate as much power as CDN/USA diesel.

Boije said every person on his tour over here that drove it, did not want to drive a conventional after driving this!! .

My 09 Focus gets 35 mpg (US gallons) regularly (mostly freeway/interstate highway driving).

I may be wrong in this but the high mileage UK focus has a much smaller engine or a diesel doesn't it? Most cars there will have a 50% smaller engine that when they come to our market.

Well, our car mileage jumped from 30 mpg on our 1983 240D to now 43 mpg on our VW Jetta. They're both exactly the same weight. The turbo and other computer controls have made our 2010 car much more economical and powerful. Those WVa mountains don't stand a chance with the Jetta TDI. It goes up them like they're not there.

Hopefully, they'll eventually do the same thing with our pickups. They didn't seem to want to do anything unless legislated to do it. Could have made their job easier if we'd adopt the same air standards as the Europeans for diesels.

How many threads do we see posters saying "I want more power!!!!!1111!!1". A vocal group of buyers wants to be able to haul a 10k trailer up a 30* slope all while passing big rigs in the right lane. Look where we are in the pickup power wars. Half tons with 400hp. I had a 79 F250 with a 300 straight 6 and 5 speed, all of 115 hp. And it worked just fine as a truck, which is what it is, got good mileage too!!

Im starting to get my "ego" stroked by economy. Fuel is just too expensive to be in the dick measuring game anymore. I think the auto companies are starting to see this.
