How to test any battery..AA, AAA, C or D ---Fast and Easy

I have always just used a meter.. Of course a load test is more definitive. But if you put them on a digital voltmeter, if they are under about 1.45 volts (no load) they are definitely on their way out and 1.2 or below, they are as good as dead. On Nicads, or NiMh. they need to be 1.2 or above or they need charging. I have never heard of this "drop test"..you gotta let us know how that works out.

In our younger days....we did the same test for drinking too much. We would stand on a bar stool......jump off....if we bounced a few times and fell over.....we were drunk and stopped drinking. If we landed upright....kept drinking!

Interesting. I'll have to try that next time. I too have always just used a meter.

Either that, or put them in the remote control or flashlight and see if they work:D

I installed batteries in a device this morning, so I thought I would try this. Triple A battery straight from the package bounced and fell over two of three times. The device worked, so the batteries must be good.

I also tried it with a dead car battery. Never bounced or fell over, but was definitely dead:laughing:

Tried this with wifey and she didn't bounce so she's still good.

Bob, that could be, time will tell.. Have you done any scientific testing to corroborate your theory?

Not yet James;)....I have to set up a laboratory first...I would not want to do shoddy research and have to report back to this fine group.....

All that I can say is, it worked. I showed the video to my wife, and she is in the kitchen happily dropping batteries. :D

This could keep her out of my hair for hours.

Uh-oh, I think she's stopped.

I had quite a few dead alkaline batteries in my garage and a box of new ones too.
I tried this with about 30 batteries. 10 dead ones and 20 new ones. It worked every time.
You only drop them about an inch onto a hard surface. All the new ones just had a thud though they may fall over.
The dead ones would all bounce a few times.

I did not have any non-alkaline batteries to see if it worked with them. I do have some good and some bad Dewalt batteries but I didn't know what side to drop them on. :confused2:

Drop it and see if it bounces or not:laughing:

I dropped one... they don't bounce, they go "splat".. oh well another 4 bucks. down the drain.:)

Flash lights are dead battery containers.

Considering differing surfaces and physical differences in batteries, I think this test is extremely subjective. I'll stick with the voltmeter or battery tester. They've never let me down. Knowing exactly what the voltage of the battery is will tell you that it's good and give you an idea of how long it will last. Counting bounces is like asking a woman her weight. It won't get you the right answer and you'll suffer for it later.:D

Well if it didnt bounce, then it WAS a good one:laughing:

I put the batteries in a device, if it works, they are good! If not, I throw those away and try different ones!

And jinman, how do you fit a woman's weight, into a discussion on batteries? :confused2:
