Is the JD SCUTs the only one with position control?

Which is.................

I thought there was a four hundred some post thread discussing the SCUT. Mostly Don87 and LBrown59 defending their SCUTS against the max. I'm sure you had to have seen it, although I can't seem to find it now for reference.

Yea but I never seen it defined just a out in out fight.

You gotta admit though, Don87 made some good points about the SCUT classification. I wish I could find that thread for some clarification on this issue.

Then define SCUT for us.

Maybe we should call the Mahindra Max series SCUT+, or SCUT-Plus, or maybe even SCUT-MAX. Sort of a subcategory of SCUT looking toward a little higher spec. So the guy that wants a machine that is real capable but light on it's feet can look for a SCUT. Those that want similar size and maneuverability but more heft and capacity can look towards a SCUT-MAX. Others can use the designation, it won't be Mahindra specific.

But back to the original topic, Mahindra makes small tractors (avoiding the nomenclature here....) with position control. In fact, they do not make a tractor, by any designation, without position control. There, said it and avoided the debate!

The 1023E and 1025R have Cat 1 3ph. Same as what was on my 4010, which had Cat. 1. Think the B Kubodas have it as well. Not sure about the BXs.

Enlighten perhaps, confuse - no. :dance1:

I do understand your argument, but unless some national tractor definition society (and no, I don't think we need another government agency!) comes up with clear lines on SCUT vs CUT, those nearer the bottom of the specs will always accuse those near the top of the specs of being out of class. Note I am not saying a lower spec tractor is not as desirable or is not top quality. I'm not picking that fight. I'm just saying that I understand your argument. And JD or Kubota can call their tractors SCUTs, CUTs or Utilities. We can then debate if we wish, but unless we have a firm standard then we are only giving our opinions, as I have done.

I remember back in the early 2000's GM came out with a heavy duty half ton pickup that had 8-lug wheels and other 3/4t hardware. But they listed it as a 1500 and it was top of the class - or was it really a 3/4t in disguise? Who knows. We bought one and found it to be an incredibly capable 1/2 ton, despite the Ford guys saying it wasn't fair.

Why is Mahindra going against what Kubota, Deere. Massey Ferguson, Yanmar, Kioti and New Holland call a SCUT? Even Stevie Wonder could see the Max is bigger than the competitions SCUTs.

I don't know why the Ford guys cared about the Silverado 1500HD. Ford has has a heavy duty half ton since the 1997 model year.

Isn't the Max same size as a 1816? Wasn't it sold as a CUT?

The 1 series is limited Cat 1.

Roger,

I haven't figured out how to multi-quote, but I have some comments. The 1816 and the Max series are quite a bit different, although they share some components. Certainly they are similar. I think the 1816 was pushed as a CUT for a time, as the thought was to try to show it more capable than a typical tractor it's size, so it was arbitrarily call a CUT by most dealers. I'm not sure if Mahindra ever categorized it as either. You know, outside of TBN, CUT means you hurt yourself and need a bandaid. And SCUT means you can't spell CUT and you have your cap locks on. :) I think the 1816 should have been pushed more as a SCUT. But again, that was arbitrary. If your thought is that it was declared a CUT at some point by Mahindra and therefore it remains so, we can raise many objections to that argument.

You might give me some dimensional references about how much larger a Max is then it's SCUT brethren of different brands. Is it an inch or two here and there, or a foot or so? A Max 25 is no giant of a tractor. Just a capable tractor of the size that most people with a half acre to 5 acres might envision as perfect. In that manner, it is certainly a SCUT.

You didn't truly grasp my Ford vs Chevy point, but I suppose that is because I did not make my point well enough. It actually supported your argument, just to show you I do understand your thought process, I just disagree.

It seems we have really sidetracked the original question. I'm ready to just say we differ and that all Mahindra tractors, however you want to classify them, have position control. There we go, answered the question without complication. With at least this last paragraph, you will be hard pressed to argue. I wish you well, and I appreciate your posts.

Dave I am not trying to argue. I am sorry if you took it like that. I am going to collect some data and create a comparsion thread. Until then here are the specs from Mahindra's site. The Max is bigger than the competitors SCUT. Also check out the tire size.
