2013 Tundra vs 2013 Ford

This was my EXACT intention for starting this thread- getting facts. Trucks are just too expensive these days not to shop other brands. I was born and raised GM. Did not own a Ford until 2000 (97 F150). Drove many Dodges, just did not work for me. If I bought strictly on emotion and tradition, a GM would be in my drive, not a Tundra. At this time and for the money, the Tundra offered the most standard options that fit my needs-space for kids and towing were the top of my list- than the others. I looked at the eb and 5.0 Ford, Titan, Dodge and Chevy. Ford with eb- to get the options the Tundra had standard was $1500 more, $750 more with 5.0. Titan was close, Tundra had more room, power and better mpg. Dodge- cheapest and felt it too, but the hemi was nice. Chevy- I was trading one in, really wanted to look harder at another manufacturer. They also were about $1000 less than the Tundra, but again with less options. This was a 2 week long process and in the end we went with the Tundra. The dealer was outstanding, top notch customer service. We could not be happier.

You sound a lot like me. I studied for months but then again, I study even the simplest items before purchasing. I have owned just about every make of vehicle in my 25 plus vehicles. Each year and need brought me to a different manufacturer. Makes you feel good knowing you got the best thing for your needs at that given time.

We decided on the Tundra. We are going back tomorrow to look over the 3 we like best again. The Ford was nice, but just did not add up to the Tundra. The EB truck was too expensive. When/If we get it, pics will come. We are trading a 2011 Silverado and a 2013 Equinox. The Chevys did fine, a life change requires more room, a good tow cap and one less note. I can take or leave the equinox, but I will miss my Silverado.

I haven't read the entire thread since I just came across it. Just wanted to add my .02

First, many in the industry say the Tundra is the "heaviest duty half ton" out there. The 2011 Ford has a comfortable ride. I don't know of any changes since that year, so comparing trucks from the past that have different technology is apples and oranges. My buddy already has 100,000 on his 2011 Ford work truck. He took it in for new brakes, shocks and a few other things and the bill was over $3200. I think they put new front hubs on it.

2 weeks later he went through a ditch with about 18" of water, just in and out, not long submersion, and his steering assist went out. He had to drive back a 100 miles with armstrong steering. It cost his company $900 for the part and $300 labor to fix it. OUCH!

PS, since my buddy doesn't have to pay for the repairs, he still loves his 2011 ford. He has the 5.0 liter.

I like these threads also, as stated above, trucks are expensive. I have been a gm fan also, but I am looking at all of the big trucks made right now , I have test drove the crew max yota, the new gm. Like them both, but I in the market for one Ton or 3/4 ton offerings. Preferably with diesel. We are on the road a lot with the kids doing livestock shows with all four of us and our pigs, sheep, and cattle.(in the trailer of course) I want to drive a mega cab dodge diesel to see how I like it., just for the sheer room in it. I guess what I am saying is that I have decided to open my mind up to the other manufactures products. I will be looking at Ford, we have a v 10 excursion with 172,000 miles on it also, that is what we usually take to show! A nd of course gm should have the redesigned 3/4 1 tons out by January, that is what my local dealer says any way, but we will see who getsy business based on bottom dollar and if they want it or not !

I'm replying in my phone so I can't bold your quote. I really don't see how you came to this conclusion. Since the redesign on the rams most of the magazines and people say the rams have the nicest interior. I have a 2012 2500 diesel ram and a 2013 2500 power wagon and both by far are the nicest trucks I have ever owned. I used to be a Ford guy but I am in the process of trading out every truck in my company's fleet to Ram because they are more dependable, come with better options for less money and are more fun to drive. This is comparing them to 2008 ford f350 I traded the 2008 f350 in on the 2500 diesel. One of my rams is the st package (think work truck) it came standard with cruise control, power windows, power door locks, tilt steering and I added the nav touch screen with back up camera for $2,000. The 2500 rides smoother than the ford and is much more comfortable. The rams from my research come with the most standard options for the least money. I'm glad you got the truck you wanted. In my opinion Tundra is an excellent truck with excellent acceleration and dependability. My only issue with it is Toyota is biding their time on trying for better fuel mileage and haven't changed much since 07. I don't blame them, they have an excellent product but I think Ram has made good progress toward better fuel mileage in their trucks the last few years without sacrificing performance. I feel you are still basing your opinions on ram to how they used to be made. They are in a whole different league now.

The Ram I drove, a 2013 SLT 2wd with tow package and hemi, was nice. Cloth interior, standard power group. No rear a/c vents. The turn off was the truck had an annoying squeak on the test drive coming from the dash area. I have one friend and one coworker that own rams, a 2011 and 2012 respectively. Both 1/2 ton hemi 2wd. The 2011 has had some front end issues, has 50k miles. The 2012 has been solid so far. If I had to rank the dodge, it was neck and neck with the Chevy, ahead of the Titan. Not a bad truck by any means, just not for me.

I know one thing for sure about the Toyotas, and that's the resale value is much much better than the 3 others.

That played a small part in my decision.

Tough to argue that. Around here the Tundra is the second most popular truck behind the F150. In the last 5 years the Ram is beating out Chevy with Nissan taking up the rear.

Just heard an ad today stating that Ram was the fastest growing in the truck market......?
