Which One do you want to know about?
Ted started working on our new Rake Style Wicked Grapple today. The design will be an enhanced version of the Bradco Compact Root Rake.
So far, we know that it will open 4" wider than the Bradco and provide 35% more clamping force.
I wanted to start this thread to share the design and build process of this new product. I hope you enjoy.
As always, we'd love to hear your comments!!

Is it going to come in a kit???? Where are the Grapple kits?

Can you not let the grapple tine go on the outside of the rake and be able to squeeze down to the smallest limb?

If it is a three tine grapple, with one tine in the middle, just remove the center support and have three grapple tines compress things to the max.

Single lid or dual lid?

Yours looks like a better design than the one I used to have. It was good for raking, but wouldn't pick up much.

I did like the dual lids.

The kit idea is on hold for now. It would take extra manpower in many areas that we're not equipped to tackle at present.
I think Ted wants to focus more on developing new attachments and expanding our product line-up.

I agree that it should have dual lids. A single long lid would make it much more difficult to grab irregular shaped piles or logs. I have heard arguments both ways on whether the tines should meet to better pick things or bypass for a better "squeeze" on small stuff. Either way if it turns out well I got my credit card ready!

It's going to have tines all the way across like the Bradco below. When they send me some more pics, i'll post them for ya.

I haven't had much to post about the new grapple lately, but Ted just sent me a couple of pics(cell phone quality) from today.
I'm getting ready to head home for the day, but I couldn't resist the urge to share them with you guys!

I like the looks but really think it is a mistake to make it a single lid! Dual lids may require more engineering but would greatly increase the holding power for uneven loads!

Any idea what the offerings will be for width and what they'll weigh in at?

Been thinking of something like this for a while - but it would be going on a Kubota B3200 with the Kubota SSQA adapter on the FEL - and most of the products out there are way overkill weight-wise for that application.

Jim I am pretty sure you would want one of the smaller ones like I have, I don't think you are going to have much capacity left with this larger heavier grapple.

We are planning to offer this grapple in 60" and 72".
I'm not yet sure exactly what they're going to weigh, but it will be extremely close to the Bradco. Their 60" weighs 413 pounds and the 72" weighs 448.
I'll keep the thread updated as I get more info.

Another grapple to consider is our 50" Single Lid Wicked Grapple, which was designed specifically for tractors like yours. It weighs 274 with the removable slats installed, and 255 without.
The TBN thread about it is here: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/283444-single-lid-cut-wicked-grapple.html

Ok - thanks for the info. What I'm really looking for is a grapple in the "root rake" style - that would work with my tractor. Seems like most of the ones available out there are a "brush" style - where the lower tines stick out quite a bit further in comparison to how the tines are on this Wicked Grapple Root Rake.

I'd like to have something that makes it easy to backdrag - and the grapples with the lower tines that stick out a ways - make that harder.

The lift capacity on the loader on my tractor is something like 900-1000 pounds - so a 450-500 attachment is going to take a big bite out of that - as well as being seriously overbuilt for the capacity of the loader.

Thanks

It appears this is more clam shaped and it is off-set so it can pinch close. Is Ted going to use the same material that he is using in the root grapple and is he planning on adding the holes to lighten the load? Also will the extra tine addition, as in the root grapple, be an option as well?

Thanks..

I'll have to talk to him about his thoughts on a lighter version for smaller tractors in the 50" range. No promises yet.
I don't think he's planning for holes in this grapple, but if he does build a lighter one, he may "swiss cheese" it !!

I'd love to see a comparison video of this style grapple vs. the wicked style grapple showing what each one's strengths and weaknesses are. I do like how the bottom tines on this one extend a little further than some on the market to give it a little more carrying capacity but still keep the root rake capabilities. Are those tine teeth replaceable?

I would like to see that video as well.
I'll ask the question everyone is wondering about.
How much will they cost?
