Technically, they did pay back most, if not all of the "loan." Now they just need to double their stock price to make things even, and boycotting them sure won't help them do that. That is the reason ford may seem to be in better shape, because they escaped the negative publicity to buyers who don't understand or care to really understand the situation. I don't truly understand it either, but know enough to understand that I don't know.
I am not in a situation to buy a new truck, but if I were and I were considering gm, I would do a h*** of a lot more research to understand everything about this before letting it persuade me one way or another... and before advertising half-truths and other misinformation to the world.
By the way fordmantpw, this is not directed at you, this just goes with the comment about being tired of hearing about this.
All other things aside, why hold it against gm anyway? They asked for money and the government gave it to them. If anything be pissed at the government if you feel it was an unwise decision. People keep saying how poorly gm managed their money before the bailout, but it is not something that happened overnight and a lot of these same people that were buying gm up until the bailout. It was such a poorly managed company, but yet they were buying their vehicles right up to the terrible "bailout." Now they want to play internet economist, and say how terrible they were to get into that position.
I hold it against both. GM should have managed the product line better and seen it coming as Ford did. Ford dropped lines like Mercury, vehicles such as Mini Vans, and trimmed the fat. This is why the banks were willing to work with them.
GM on the other hand keep doing the same old thing till it was too late.
The Government should have never stepped in. The media had a agenda as did the unions and now WE are stuck with ownership of a company that is destined to fail again. Total BS.
