Should i bother with this Rusty Dirty Hoe?

Anything can be fixed if you have enough money and time. If your REALLY good with a die grinder, have a lot of patience, you could silver solder- grind/stone the pits and get it true again without turning the rod. Like others have said, stone all the rust off before moving the cylinders. Make sure its a hard stone, something like a knife sharpening stone. It may not even leak, I've seen some pretty big nic's out of some rods and was shocked they weren't leaking.

2 words: Scrap Value

Then, pretty much no matter what you can't "lose".

Assuming that its a Kelly B10, it weighs ~600# (per: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/262926-kelly-b10-backhoe-info.html and Farmall Cub • View topic - kelly backhoe attachment??). At $0.11/# that is $66 in scrap value. Something tells me that the seller isnt likely to go for that.
Also, did it get swamped in Sandy? That would make it worth very little IMO.

Yeah...true. $200 sounds good.

It's a serious project and these things really don't sell well.

Thanks for all the advice, here is some more pics

i have also seen other backhoes operated with more levers, is it too much of a pain to be worth any savings with running cheaper valves ?

Back up and take some pictures of the whole thing. I guess its a Kelley?

If you want a backhoe and don't mind it being a project I think you can probably do fine with that one. Look at the threads on home-built backhoes and compare that to this one that is already designed and built and just needs to be cleaned up, some minor repairs made, and repainted. You won't find all the steel to build a backhoe at anywhere near scrap price.

Yes, it is. This is what i was thinking in terms of its value. how much would it cost in time and metal to design, and fabricate something like this..while also seeing what a functioning one sells for.

I'm also considering tapping into the B2410's hydraulics and having some quick connects, have to look into parts for that.
Where can i look for suggestions or plans for creating a subframe ?

The subframe thread:
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/build-yourself/171760-how-build-your-own-custom.html

If the existing pump still works use it. Otherwise running off your tractor hydraulics can work fine. Set up the backhoe valve for power beyond. Put a pair of quick-connects somewhere in the pressure line between the loader and the 3-point control. Connect the backhoe valve in series using the "in" and "power beyond" ports in the backhoe valve. The "out" port on the backhoe valve will need a 3rd connection going directly to the tractor hydraulic sump.

Of course as you go through the backhoe you will need to operate all of the cylinders and flush out the old fluid.

Those 6-spool joystick valves for $450 are a pretty good deal. I doubt you'll save much going with levers. That said my backhoe has levers and it works fine for me.

Well, i made the deal. Traded about 400 worth of silver coins for it & he delivered it (30min drive).
Started cleaning the grease fittings and filling them up so far all but one took grease.
Ran out of grease so i decided to mount it and move it closer to my garage.

I could use some guidance on how i should go through everything.
This is what i was thinking so far - 1. grease fittings 2. clean cylinder rods 3. drain fluid from everything.

As i am going through and disconnecting the cylinders to drain should i also be removing the pivot pins and cleaning or is just greasing good ?
Of course i would love to paint this thing orange after a tear down and cleaning but it might be better just to just see if the cylinders are going to leak under operation first.

I might drain fluids first, the disconnect the hoses from the cylinders and remove the cylinders to clean them. Could be a lot easier that way.
