Metal Detectors

Good points to consider. I wonder how the ARPA guidelines would fall for lands that were deeded private before the Revolutionary War. I'm not good at "legalese" and wonder about their "definition" of "Indian Lands". Wasn't it all at one time?

I really don't know that answer, but "Western and Eastern Treasures" is a great read...and they were Alerting people to ARPA years ago. Violating it means your property gets confiscated along with a nice fine while they're at it.

Found a knife I lost also found that they will detect steel toe boots :( which makes you think you found your knife. That was a long day....

Bout lost my coffee this morning reading this. I bet ground balancing the detector by steel toes was a b***h. :D

Dirt Ditch I would hear the beep think I found the knife put the detector down and search. Pick it up and move away and hear the beep and search. Drove me crazy!!! Until walking back to my house I realized I was detecting my boots. It was one of those days.

I learned the same lesson years ago while working for a survey company... I was walking across somebody's front lawn looking for pins and every step gave me a "hit". :D

We were set to buy one from KellyCo, called them to discuss additional parts for the one we thought we wanted. The salesperson told us to not buy that model but get the more expensive one as the cheaper model would struggle with our soil type. So much for that. Wife said no.

OUCH! I hope that you realised it before any internal damage was done.

Glad to hear.
The orchardist I worked for years ago had bought a used Kentworth (private sale) to haul apples in the fall... we talked some of doing some OTR trucking during the off season. As he was driving it home the oil plug fell out... he noticed it immediately but needed the air brakes so couldn't kill the engine until he got stopped. Shortly after that the cab flopped over when his full time OTR was being serviced... These two expenses ended my trucking career before it started. ;-)

I have had metal detectors since the early 70's. Back in those early days, my father and I used to metal detect the beaches of Waikiki after supper. I was in high school. In those days, just a few people had detectors, and we were one of the few. Those were the days...

Right now, I have a Garrett.
