GM unveils new 6.2 1/2t specs

P.S. - GM has been known to rev their engines to post their higher hp & torque numbers - the opposite of what a low rpm, towing truck engine needs.

Exactly!!

The people who are in the market for a GM 6.2 likely don't care much about economy due to the fact that they limit them to the top trims. They want power. And it's got it in spades.

Correct you are!

I remain skeptical & unconvinced. GM seems late to the party with a "me-too" product.

Lest anyone think I have an axe to grind, that is not the case. I drove nothing but Chev Silvardo for 12 years before I switched to Ram. Nor am I phishing for validation of my decision. Just offering MHO is all.

I am still interested in seeing what the light duty diesel offerings end up with.

I don't know what there is to be skeptical about. It makes gobs of power and gets great fuel economy. Ford is still my truck of choice because I feel it is the best all-around, but power/economy wise, this new 6.2 from GM is rather impressive.

Yeah, GM's torque has historically always been higher in the rev range than Ford's. That's one reason the Ford 5.4 towed so much better than the GM 5.3, even though the 5.3 had more HP.

I just don't see any compelling reason to go back to GM, is all. Late to market, expensive, high-revving, new engine, etc. etc.

I can see that. I think this Silverado is more about keeping GM faithful than gaining new customers. There is nothing earth shattering about this new truck (IMO).

Where are the hp and tq peaks of that Hemi?

395@5600 and 407@3950.

I've had 2 GM 6.2's and neither one required premium gas. The trucks run exactly the same with premium or not..The manual says to go with a higher octane if pre-ignition is heard--never happened on either one even when pulling a 7800# trailer into the mountains.

I think the new LT 6.2 requires premium gas. IIRC it is 11.5:1 compression.

Hard to say, that was the consensus opinion regarding the pre '14 version too but it wasn't true...11:5:1 could require that possibly, but we'll have to see.
