I like your build Dan - I know what you mean about the wheel positioning ....

..... Mine was determined by the length of the ram and the easiest way to position it and taking into account the available material to "swing" the axle on and how strong the material would have to be to "have them way out back".

Me too. I had one length of sch 10 pipe and used that for the swing arms. Would like to have heavyer, so I could add some weight, or longer, to span some longer dips in the road. I did buy a length of sch 40, but haven't had time to make a new swing arm yet.

Speaking of adding weight - I am going to fill my tyres with water - not a big innovation in tractor land for sure, but what about this for an unfinished idea; could there be such a two pot mixture that you can add together inside your tyres that turns to rubber - solid rubber tyres in a can!

Wow! It works - well up and down at least. All wired up now with a long enough lead to the control box to be able to reach the cab of my dump truck (I might be able to dump and level on the run with a little practise). I left a couple of spare wires to allow for charging from alternator or battery charger or solar panel etc (I could put a propellor on the roof as a wind turbine but that might be getting too crazy now - the speeds I would have to travel could get dangerous!)

I had to adjust the little flow control valve because it was taking 20-30 seconds to lower - now it seems to take 10 but is probably more like 5 - should be ok to get used to and once the full weight from being on the towball it will be quicker.

Just a few things before it gets a workout this weekend - bolt on a grader cutting edge at back - strap in the battery - a couple of conduit clamps on the cable - cut some big slots with the oxy in the front I beam to allow some material through - and if time allows put a flexible cover over the workings with some conveyer rubber and mayyybe bolt on a chunk of angle at the front to be able to bolt another grader blade that will sit on a 45 angle in front of the mini rippers but it will sit an inch or so higher and will have a series of 5/8" bar spaced every 4" or so on the same 45 degree angle and all this is in order to scoop up rocks into the "box" for dumping at the rock pile - I might have to add "rock picker" to its name. (Might not have time for the rock picker this week though)

So the big day is here - tests will commence. Still a job or two to finish but it has a cutting edge bolted on to the rear I beam with hopefully enough bolts :confused3:

All good so far after day 1. Am gunna have to organise the charging side of things (or put a charger on in between use will do for now) and I think I may extend the swing arms slightly so I can run 8 ply 185 x 14 tyres and still get the back end right down and with a little cutting action. I have also heard that you can get tyres solid filled with rubber so that will add a bit of weight. Nothing broke, so it was a good day.

Cheers xfaxman - did a couple of tyres on my little Mitsi dump truck - rocks in between the dualies and they get Right in and bend the rims too - guess the rim guard won't save that huh? At least the isuuzu dumper kept the show on the road and after 6 years here we have a road that a concrete truck can get up. Big couple of days work done and now can bring some more dirt up with a big truck (should be a little quicker) - will see what happens tomorrow.

No, it won't protect the rims from the outside, just keeps the inside from rusting, while adding weight.

Dumpers are handy. Here is mine.

Nice looking dumper there xfaxman.

3 day long weekend and a bit of help from a mate has made a road on a steep hill that can be travelled at quite a decent speed. Pretty good for the first "base coat" anyway.

The photo looking uphill was total bush and trees a year ago when I put the dozer thru there - when I marked it out it took me an hour and a half to slash my way thru with a machete. Most of the road runs along the edge of a rocky cliff that required a fair bit of concentration on the dozer - the top end of the road is about 3 stories high straight down if one was to slip off the edge - I got a little close to slipping off that edge today.
