Recommendations on Trailer Manufacturers

Looking for recommendations...

I am planning to purchase a 6 ton 20 foot equipment trailer to tow my Kubota, FEL, and backhoe.

Been going back and forth on which manufacturer to choose.

Here is where I am, comparing trailers that seem to have roughly the same specs:

- Hudson: I can get a Pro series trailer with the specs I need, quoted at $5,300.
- BigTex: I can get a Big Tex trailer with similar specs for $4,600
- Holmes: I can get a Holmes trailer with similar specs for $4,450.
- Down to Earth: I can get a Down to Earth trailer with similar specs for $3,800

I've been told that the Hudsons are the best. It's hard for me to tell differences in quality by looking at these trailers, though I have noticed some things I questioned in the options besides the Hudson. I could pay the $5,300, I just want to save money if I don't need to spend it.

I don't plan to tow much initially - couple times a year, but the way I do things I could end up towing much more. Just don't have any immediate plans to do so.

Thoughts and reccomendations?

I'm a little biased because they are built right up the road from me, but it's really hard to go wrong with a Big Tex trailer. With the amount of times you're planning to use yours yearly, I think you would enjoy it.

I have a Kearney - which is a step below Big Tex. Still built here in East Texas, but whenever I am around a Big Tex trailer, I can easily see the upgraded difference in quality with a Big Tex vs. my Kearney.

I've an '07 18' HSE "5 Ton" Deluxe w/the 2' Beavertail. I got it when I bought my B7610 in Virginia Beach. It's a nice heavy duty trailer. What type axles? Ez-Lube or Never-Lube?

If your only going to use it a few times a year you might not find an advantage in spending more money.

/edit - also make sure it's deck is wide enough for what you want to carry - My Hudson is only 78" between the wheel wells. My M4700 needed 79". Other 12,000 lb trailers are 80" and 82".

I'm VERY happy with my Hudson trailer, it's an 18' with a 4 ton capacity. My needs have changed a bit since I bought it and I want a 25' trailer now. I will stick with Hudson if I buy new when I get a bigger one, regardless of the extra cost. I personally think it's worth it over the 'value priced' trailers. You do get what you pay for.

Big Tex are a decent trailer. Not familiar with the other three. I would be hesitant of something a thousand dollars cheaper.

By researching and looking at trailers with the things suggested by Chris, I bought from a local Mfg- Betterbuilt in Double Springs, AL and had everything I wanted for the same price as a mass produced trailer with less features. I got sealed wiring harness, LED lights, Dexter EZ Lube axles, 100% paint, spare tire, chainbox, extra bracing, ramp assist springs, custom paint, PT deck. No shipping as I picked up at plant.
Very pleased with it.
