Welding drill stem

No,no,no! I was talking about the pipe piles, (cans). See the middle picture I posted before? The red crane with the blue boom on the left side of the picture was being rigged up to drill. The drill had a 750-HP diesel engine!
Here are some pictures of the drills we used. The large hole saw was used to cut the rock.

Drilled out.....or....pumped out?

I need to find a "pile driving for dummies" article to help me understand the process. Always was fascinated by how the process really works and all I have ever really seen is the pile driving. Never understood how the big concrete structures are built on top especially in the marine environment.

We are interested. This might not be the right thread but you should think about giving us a little online tutorial on the whole process. Marine construction is doubly fascinating.

Here is how concrete container ship docks are generally done in the north. The deck is usually precast deck panels that have rebar sticking out the ends that are welded together.
In the south the deck is generally cast in place.
The second picture is at the Port of Oakland California, cast in place deck.
