Treating Well

I have a question for you guys. I believe the casing on my well is 4". It has a submersible pump. The well sticks out the ground about 18 inches or so and has a cap on it.

What you have is a Pitless Adaptor. They are not needed or used in Florida because we don't have extended freezing. Chlorine can certainly degrade the rubber on the pitless. It eats the bladders out of bladder tanks if chlorine is injected before the tank instead of after it.

It's still a great idea if you must pour bleach down your well, you should chase it with fresh water to wash the bleach off the parts that can be damaged by chlorine.

I've been in the Well business for over 40 years so this stuff isn't new to me. And it's something I've done more times than I care to count.

wow.. no black poly here.. not code in florida. rubber certaintly would not be.
Where did you read that? We don't use it here either, but it's not against code in Hillsborough County Florida. It's just that nobody but big box stores carry it and they don't carry the good stuff.

None of the city / county jobs I work on approve the rolled / flexible black polyethylene that use the brass comp connectors for potable water systems.

HDPE IS fine in distro systems however

All the Poly I have seen used barb fittings. I have never seen a compression fitting used on Poly. And as far as I know, there is no reason you can't use it for either drop pipe or underground.

comp fittings are common.. you can google them.

Much of the poly we have used required electrofusion fittings.

anyway. like I have previously said. I don't know the codes where the guy has the well with the pit adapter. and as I have said to you. the county I work for.. don't spec them.
