I tried one initially with open back and front and only solid end walls. Didn't hold up well, so I went to this model which has done far better.

I was thinking more along the lines of spacing the siding and maybe some 45 degree braces.

I have 3-4 years supply of firewood on hand at this time, woodshed is built on the south side of a metal carport.

I prefer not to be this far ahead, but my wood supply is at the farm 30 miles from home & across county lines. Due to Emerald Ash Borer scare, many areas don't allow firewood to be moved across county lines, that regulation isn't here yet, but that may change, so I brought more home last year. ~~ grnspot

I had a question on this as well and nobody can give me an answer. I am in a "quarantined" county, but so are all of my surrounding counties. Is it okay to move from one county to another within a quarantined area, as long as you aren't going through any "safe" areas?

It probably depends on your individual state laws. It's legal here. da** bureaucrats added our county to the quarantine list to make it easier for the firewood sellers to move stuff through our area even though the ash borer wasn't here yet! Our woods are going to be a real mess when they get here and I'll probably be too old to keep our trails open..... :(

I use 5 full cords per year in a wood furnace. One side of my pole shed has two 7.5' x 8' x 9' (average height) bins. I stack another 1/2 row in front so each bin holds one year's wood.

The left bin in the above photos is this year's wood. I have already used 1/2 of one of the eight full rows and 1/2 of the extra front row. The black garbage bags contain birch bark which is used as fire starter. The right side bin is wood for 2014/2015.

I stack another year's wood outside. I have one more row to add to the outside woodpile as shown here:

This wood will be moved into the woodshed in the spring and used for the 2015/2016 season, and I'll start restocking the outdoor pile. The tarp in the photo covers more bags of birch bark fire starter.

I would eventually like to have a third covered bin to avoid restacking the wood in the spring. But it would be too far from the house, so I would need to go to some kind of pallet system as others have mentioned for that wood.

Some really good ideas here. I am in the process of figuring out where and how I want to store my firewood so I'll be following this thread closely.

Stinks that you may not be able to keep up with them when it hits. We would be devistated ifwe got the Asian Longhorn here, lots of maple for them to desroy.
Moving firewood does get to be a hot topic. Campers around here are not allowed to bring firewood with them now.

Mine is stored on pallets. I have around 50 pallets of wood.

My ground is too uneven for freestanding stacks to stay put when I move them. But yes, that's simple and easy if it works for you.

Everything is uneven here. I just take it slow with them. Sometimes I use cambuckle straps to hold the wood on. I may try wrapping some pallets with netwrap.

We have the EAB here and it came in on firewood, my place is just off Interstate and had started seeing the bugs maybe 4 years ago and yet they have not included our county just yet (that I know of) on the list. Moving firewood around long distance is bad and causes the spread much faster. I grew up with the destruction of the Elms from DED, watched as our street was clear cut from what was once giant beautiful trees to a year or so later some saplings were planted. :( Most of these trees were ground up and or burnt in the early days to try and stop the spread of Dutch Elm Disease. I have been cutting Elm that dies 10 years ago on my place now, and still have a number standing dead (they were Red Elm and Slippery elm which were less suitable for bugs but eventually die just the same.)

I will be taking out some ASH this winter for cutting into boards.

If you are going to be transporting be sure only to take dead trees with 0 bark left on it and or have KILN (high heat dried.)
