We have the EAB here and it came in on firewood, my place is just off Interstate and had started seeing the bugs maybe 4 years ago and yet they have not included our county just yet (that I know of) on the list. Moving firewood around long distance is bad and causes the spread much faster. I grew up with the destruction of the Elms from DED, watched as our street was clear cut from what was once giant beautiful trees to a year or so later some saplings were planted. :( Most of these trees were ground up and or burnt in the early days to try and stop the spread of Dutch Elm Disease. I have been cutting Elm that dies 10 years ago on my place now, and still have a number standing dead (they were Red Elm and Slippery elm which were less suitable for bugs but eventually die just the same.)

I will be taking out some ASH this winter for cutting into boards.

If you are going to be transporting be sure only to take dead trees with 0 bark left on it and or have KILN (high heat dried.)

In Medina County the Ash is being wiped out. 5 years and there won't be much left here.

Everything is uneven here. I just take it slow with them. Sometimes I use cambuckle straps to hold the wood on. I may try wrapping some pallets with netwrap.

What is net wrap? And where is the cheapest place to get it?

I'm familiar with shrink wrap, but that wouldn't let the wood air well, which is why I know you are suggesting net wrap. Any links?

My neighbor gave me some net wrap like they use on round hay bales. When the rolls get down small he changes them out cause it is not worth it for him to get 5-10 out of roll out then have to change it in the middle of doing a feild. I also help him put the new rolls of net wrap on because they are a little heavy for him to handle. I was talking to Scooby074 about my idea of using net wrap and he showed me a video were they use net wrap in Europe to wrap their wood. I just found these smaller roll that would be easier to handle for pallets. Pallet Net Wrap Some people also bag their firewood. Dino Bags | Firewood Bag

kco: Nice shed but how the heck do you get the wood up that high? and down again?

Way too much re-handling for me.

I cut down some ash trees on my BIL's property. I was surprised that every single one was dead, maybe 25 trees.

The first year I built some racks and stacked it on the deck and never had to carry it up and down stairs or walk more then 4 feet for
the wood. But did not like that as I like to look out my sliding glass doors on the deck and see what is around did not like it spoiling
my views.

The second year we stacked it on the ground and in a shed we built out of left over materials, the metal was all different
colors but if you turn it white facing out it all looks white from outside. I used my racks that I built the previous year to
keep wood off the ground when it is not in the shed.

Last year I decided to make wood boxes I can lift with forks of my tractor. We made boxes with rough cut lumber and
old metal and wire left over from my pens. The wood does not completely go around the base the wire keeps the wood
in and the wind can blow throw and metal roof keeps snow and rain off wood. They have a hinged top and the snow and
rain slides off as the top is pitched. We made two of the these one is 10 foot and the other is 12 food. They are three feet
high two foot wide. My deck has no railing so I lift right on the side of deck and have more than enough wood for a few weeks.
I also keep the other box full read to go. So once I finish with one I replace with a full one and once I get the time I fill
the empty one and get it ready. I do not like to handle the wood that much.

This years wood vs. next years still drying sugar maple... [ have a face cord in by the stove, too ] [ not very interesting but I needed an area to stack that got some sun, and was far enough out back to keep the critters away.. ]

My current method has developed from when i was the main wood cutter, stacker, hauler, and fetcher as a child. When my wife and I built our house i knew I didn't want to stack and move wood several times like i did as a child, and I dont have any available child labor So I came up with this plan. I worked for a manufacture that got in raw part in collapsible wire baskets (almost like a dog cage) that are moved by a fork truck. When assembled you can stack them on top of each other. I purchased a few of them and when cutting up a tree I cut it, split it and drop it into a waiting basket. I then move the basket full of wood into the bard for storage. Once winter comes i move them one at a time to the back of the house right next to the door near the wood stove. I dont have any pictures of the staked wood in the barn I'll get one some time and post it but here is a pic of the basket i use. <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=342709"/> The beauty is I only lift each log twice, from when its cut, on to the splitter. Then from the basket into the fire.

I like the looks of your baskets. Do you happen to have a source and ballpark cost on these?
