The Wallenstein Arriveth: My New BX62s 3PT Chipper

Look what came off the truck today! :drink: I didn't get the chance to fire her up and put anything through it yet, but I really love the quality of the construction. The paint job is better than on my new 5075E!

Even the crate / shipping set up was really well done:

The two bolts between the chute hinges, they hold the twig breaker, tend to loosen or break on my BX62. Not a lot, but I think I'm my fourth replacement bolt in two years of use. Keep an eye on those and maybe have a couple spare bolts and nuts. Keep two adjustable wrenches with you for those and for removing the chute lock-down bolt if you need to tilt it up to clear a clog. That's the easiest way to clear a clog and eyeball the innards.

Other than that, like others have said, don't feed it a steady diet of juicy green leaves or needles. Alternate with woodier stuff or wait until they dry out.

Mine's red, but I really like it.

Good advice, thank you Dave! I've had the same thought that I would need to keep an adjustable wrench on hand to make sure these bolts are tightened periodically. I believe they were 11mm on the chute and 19mm on the bigger bolts. I might just buy some cheap 11/19mm wrenches and put them in the owner's manual plastic tube.

I was thinking the 5075e would be CAT2, so you had a CAT2 QH, and Wallenstein had changed to CAT2 mount. But not the case. I guess I need to convert my chipper to CAT2 so I can use my CAT2 QH.

The 5075E 3PT is CAT1 or CAT2 (according to the JD website.) I have a CAT1 iMatch, and it works fine for all the implements I run - 6 foot: BB, shredder, disk, rear blade, etc.

For a qh cat ii, the pins are too close together. Not simply a pin diameter issue. For cat 2 3pth, no problems of course.

I contacted Wallenstein and they confirmed that model does not support qh cat2. The next size up does, but the 62 series is as big as I have in mind for my tractor with 46hp pto.

That sounds right. Glad you called them. There's a good amount of space available on the quick-hitch bushes with my CAT1, but I don't think it's enough for CAT2.

How do you plan to convert your chipper to cat2? I worried that simply using longer pins might not be strong enough for that application.

Maybe a single long rod all the way through?

I would add brackets so the pins were supported on the ends. I also need to check if the top pin distance from the lower pins would work on a CAT 2 QH. A long rod all the way through may interfere with the PTO drive shaft.

A long rod all the way through may interfere with the PTO drive shaft.

From what I see when the BX62 is attached to my 5075E, I think this will be the issue. When you set the Wallenstein level on the ground, there's a good bit of angle from the tractor PTO to the chipper PTO, and I believe the PTO shaft would not allow a rod through from side to side.

I just bought an as-new one yesterday for 2k. It's too big for my MF135 but the deal was right. I'll just have to watch what I feed into it. Still has the original blades which are sharp. It was only used for 8hr apparently... Green unfortunately.

Wow! Congrats on that deal. That doesn't happen often! I have watched for them down here for about 6 months and have never seen anything come up "used".

By some miracle, I managed to remember to take pictures of my chainsaw scabbards. Here is the one on the chipper chute:

And here is the one on my carryall:

I also have one mounted on my box blade:

They are easy to make and attach and work very well.
