Is a 4.6 v8 enough in a full size F-150

That's exact opposite of what I'm saying.

260HP Cummins will perform 162.5% more work than a 160HP Cummins.
260HP Cummins will perform 121% more work than the 215HP Cummins.

Shows the sad state of the education system that most folk either leave school or graduate form school without knowing basic physics.

What does that have to do with what I was saying? All I have meant this entire time is that you can get by with less power and torque with deeper gearing.

I guess I am just not being understood. I have a good mechanical understanding and know the difference between horsepower and torque and what influence gearing has on it.

A good way to put it is my 5600# 28 HP tractor will out pull a 280 HP equal weight pickup. Gearing is where it's at and how you take advantage of the available torque through the use of those gears.

Yes. Torque and power at the ground is what matters.

A 260hp Cummins with 100ftlb will not out tow a 200hp Cummins with 400lbft. The gearing required to make up the torque deficit would be crazy deep.

So I guess B&D is going to dump the clutch at 4000 rpm to haul whatever he is hauling, good luck with that!

Good rule of thumb: when buying a machine, whether truck, tractor, chainsaw, whatever, when you decide on the one you want, buy the next bigger one.

If the price is right and the truck was well cared for, they will pull 5000 lbs, locally. I have owned the 4.6 and the 5.4 liter trucks. Honestly neither are really awesome at towing. When I borrow my fathers 05 Chevy truck I realize what a dog the 5.4 liter is. But, I tow regularly with my 01 f150 5.4l. It gets the job done. Not a sprinter but works ok.

yep.. it's hard to find a good replacement for displacement....

Never said or implied 4000rpm. You are comparing apples to oranges.
Look around for a manual trans in a light truck b.t.w.
Truck transmissions have a bull low 1st gear for easing heavy loads into motion.
On the same hill the truck and trailer 245HP engine will pull out and pass the otherwise identical 160HP or 215HP rig. The 245HP engine moves more air to burn more fuel to make more power to perform more work.

We have some members here that talk torque, torque and torque but don't understand power. I did not know which group you were in. The 4.6 iirc had either 231 or 260HP.
The old low HP trucks could of course move the load but held up traffic via hill climbs at 30mph.

Are you trying to say that people put too much emphasis on torque?
