Want a new laptop but do I want Windows 8?

I recall reading somewhere that on W-8.1 you can make a particular site like W-7 compatible.
I didn't pay attention since before that applied to making old software work on newer versions of windows, not changing IE to work like an older version.
The windows 7 browser was updated 2-3 versions in its time.
I have updated my W-7 computers to the IE 11 browser over a week ago and it works fine and is faster than IE 10.
Don't know about the effect on your Java Script problem though.
Have you tried installing Chrome on your new pc to see if it will work with the Java script at your credit union?

Ron, I guess it would be interesting to update my Windows 7 machine from IE10 to IE11, and that might tell me whether the problem is IE or Windows 8.1. Apparently, from what the young lady at the credit union told me, others with Windows 8 and/or 8.1 are having the same problem, so she apologized and asked for patience while they try to figure it out. So I'm just going to sit tight awhile and see what happens. It's not a real problem right now because I can log in to the credit union just fine on this Windows 7 machine.

I understand. However, Microsoft put the IE 11 update into automatic updates for W-7 a week ago. If you want to block it from automatic updates you need to go to Windows updates and tell them so.
They are going to do the update for developers first but it will be a quick roll out for everyone since they want to make all devices compatible.

You might go to "Tools" in your 8.1 IE-11 browser after opening your credit union site and try this. See attached.
Windows 8 and the 8.1 pre-release versions did not have IE 11.

A couple of years ago I was making some ferry bookings. I had traveled with this company before so I knew that they had a Senior Citizens discount. But the discount wasn't showing up in the fare structure of the web page. I was using Firefox so I fired my old computer and looked at the same site using IE. The URL was identical, the same number of . and , ,, all identical. One displayed the page showing the discount, the other didn't.

at work I tried to download it for hte guy in the back office. he has a win 7 machine.. and the lil checkbox in ie is clicked to auto install new versions..a dn win updates is on.

went to microsoft side and tried downlaodingthe unenhanced ver. a download starts.. then whenthe dialog box closes. nothing. no instal.. no reboot. still on 10.

what gives?

What I did, since I'm always watching my 350 MB per day limit on Hughes.net and have two windows 7 machines, was save the 54 MB IE-11 installer to one of the machines so I could use it on the other without downloading again. ( I hate downloading things directly in "Run" anyway. Too many years of telephone internet service that didn't get it all )
Then I went into my administrator mode and clicked on the saved download. A message appeared saying it would then download
anything else necessary to complete the install and it did.
On one of the machines it didn't work and I found that there were updates waiting to be installed ( security types ) on that machine. I installed the updates and then IE-11 installed on that machine.

Be sure he has SP 1 and no updates or reboot is pending.
Prerequisite updates for Internet Explorer 11

as I said.. no updates pending.. and no reboot pending. couldn't get back on to check his SP level though
