Well in my case the pressure was on the other side, in the hoses connecting the rams on the grapple. Once those are off I think the only way you could release it is with a wrench, loosen something up and lose a little fluid.

But close 'em, put it on the ground, shut off the tractor, turn on ignition, cycle the buttons a couple of times, now the fluid flows out of the hoses and back into the tractor. Then I disconnect and the reconnect will be easy.

I see what you are saying , I should have included the part about closing the grapple
- before putting the control in float and removing lines-, I pretty much have to close mine first because the lid is really heavy, but is no where near as hard to connect and disconnect as my 3 bottom hydraulic plow - because i like to leave the tires down in tow mode... that one is a bugger :D

I remembered that earlier you were worried about grabbing a single small tree with the grapple. I picked one up today and took some pictures.

Nice grip, good for cutting it into firewood while it is up in the air. The paint wear shows you are getting good use out of the grapple.

I got smart on that one. I cut the tree in my backyard. I moved it there to keep the mess out of the grass. While I had it in the grapple I worked it up. I am surprised the paint is holding up as well as it has.

Island Tractor, I have never operated a grapple, so bear with me. I am here to gain knowledge before I make a purchase. You have stated " get a narrow grapple" I understand that a narrow one will penetrate the earth better, but how do you know where your grapple lower front edge is? I can get a fair idea from the loader leveling guide But is the tines 6" or a 1/2 inch off the ground ? Or do you just go in to the log at a slight downward angle dig in under the log and tear up the ground and then curl up ? Do you stand up and look over the front of your tractor to see it? It would seem if the grapple was a couple of inches wider than your tires then you could see the angle of the tines and it's position to the log you wanted to pick up. Thanks

Good question. With a narrow grapple you can actually see the edge of the grapple sitting in the normal position. Just lean your head slightly to one side or the other to see where the edge tine is on either side. See photos below. With a wider grapple like a 72 or 84 you could probably see the same edge outside the FEL but then you wouldn't be exactly lined up on the object. Think of a narrow grapple like forks. You can see what is ahead pretty easily. There may be some instances with any width grapple where the hood of the tractor interferes with your ability to exactly locate the central tines but unless you want to install a "backup" camera on the front grill that will be the case with any FEL attachment.
