lwm, I know you considered the Monster Grapple, now it sounds like you should have got it.

51" opening.

I am posting this to help newbies make a decision. The grapple is heavy, so it needs to be a big tractor.

No reason that exact grapple design couldn't be built in 48"-60" width with a single lid using 3/8" mild steel. That would sure cut the weight and cost.

Yep, I posted that drawing and mentioned raising the pivots on one of the EA threads, but got no response from Travis.

Hey Terry,

have you ever wished you had two rams controlling two different top claws to grab uneven stuff?

so far no, i can see where it would be a benefit and a hindrance.

I know the benefit, what is the hindrance?

i use the grapple to reach into a pile and pull out one log, one something and my thinking is if you can get one half of the grapple to loosely grab it and the other side might knock it out. i got nothing at first i thought LWM was talking about a regular grapple and there aren't very good for raking, then i remembered yours that is a rake with two halves.

Extra cost, extra weight, limited visibility, only rare instances where two lids are helpful and virtually none where they are necessary.
