Just saying that this thread is a prime example of what everybody is complaining about; its a first world problem. Were not complaining that we dont have enough to eat, or no clothes, or were dying form cholera... Were complaining because too many people have money and are spending it on what some take to be a semi-religeous, semi-sacrosanct day.
And dont be such a martyr, no one individual was singled out: its the tone and topic of thread. If you're righteous enough to be above reproach then you have no worries do you? What you give, how you live is your business and your charity is between you those who recieve it. The pious man gives without drawing attention to his giving.
I would argue that instead of bitchin about the perversion of the season, that we mobilize and actaully do something that is more in line with the tone of our concerns. All of us seem to be pretty blessed and could do something for someone this season that was beyond the annoymous charitable donation.
I know of a good organizaiton that could use some help: Crosses for losses or the Southern Baptist disaster relief. They could both use money, but morethan that they could use your manpower.
Do something that feels really good this Christmas: help someone.
