My Dad in ~'60-61. 32 Ford, channeled, 4" drop front axle, flathead Merc stroked and bored to max. Uncle and family friends confirmed it ran 12's at Fremont. He cruised/raced Sacramento, and occasionally Modesto about 3 years before the timeframe of "American Graffiti"; movie was about George Lucas and Modesto.

Wasn't aware of that movie. I'll have to see if I can find it. Many of the old car movies were pretty cheezy; so much so that I have forgotten them, as well they should be forgotten. As I recall "Two Lane Blacktop", "Bullitt", "Gone in Sixty Seconds", "American Graffiti" were all good. Any more? Anybody? Oh, that reminds me, the movie "In Cold Blood" was an excellent, but depressing movie, and a true story based on the book by Truman Capote. Had some shots of some old cars...53 Pontiac, '59 Chevys, etc.

Oh, BTW, can't find anything on the internet about a movie entitled "My Dad". Am I getting the title correct? Do you have a link?

Thanks
Dennis

"What kind of brain did you get !"

"Umm... it was Abbey something."

"What do you mean "Abbey Something" ?"

"Errrr.... it was "Abbey........ yes, Abbey Normal".

Always got a kick out of most of Mel Brooks' stuff; it appealed to my sense of humour......

The pictures were of my dad and his truck. I did not mention; they ran a stock car on the local circuit. Friday West Capitol(gone), Saturday All-American in Roseville(paved over in '71, expanded to 1/3 mile a couple years ago), and Auburn(changed from 1/4 to 1/8 mile dirt for speedway motorcycle in the 80's).

Sunday eve, on occasion, he would pull the race motor(from 37 Ford coupe) an swap it in to his truck). Then he'd have another race motor ready for the race car by Friday.

Reminded me, Greased Lightening with Richard Pryor playing Wendell Scott

White Lighting - 1973 is one of my favorite movies. Matter-of-fact I like all of Burt Reynolds 70's movies... Gator - 1976, Deliverance - 1972, Smokey and the Bandit - 1977 , Hooper - 1978.

When I was a child I saw the movie In Cold Blood on TV. Then on a trip with my Grand folks, we went by the Clutter house where the murders took place. Had many, many nightmares because of that movie. :(

I'm not surprised. I read the book before the movie came out; it is frightening to be drawn into their mindset and reasoning. Although it's been many years, I recall from the book a passage describing the thoughts of the character played by Robert Blake as he crawled under the bed to retrieve a silver dollar. He was thinking about the irony of the terrible thing they were doing, and the fact that he was crawling under the bed for a measly silver dollar.

Another great car movie...can't believe no one has mentioned it..."Thunder Road". Great old classic.

Not my favorite WW II movie, but definitely in my top ten (or even top 5, considering I watch it almost every time TCM plays it):
