People pay for a health club. He gets his excersise and gets paid for it.
You ain't kidding either. We just joined a health club primarily for the wifey and I am determined to get rid of another 15-20 pounds of fat. My diet is now at a level that I am maintaining or loosing weight so any exercise will burn fat. Years ago, I did Atkins and lost the weight but I my diet was not under control so I gained the weight back even though I was working long hours on our property AND going to a gym.
I bought a heart rate monitor early this year, or late last year, to use on the indoor bike. I started wearing it outside when splitting wood, running the chainsaw and going to the gym. I have only been going to the gym for a month or so and I am NOT pushing myself. I have learned to NOT push myself since all I do is get injured or so sore I can't work out as much as I would like. At the gym, I walk or run, the gym has a little track, use the dozen or so weight machines, use the rowing torture device, and the step machine. The most calories I have burned has been around 1,100 calories. The workouts will get more taxing over time and I will burn more calories, eventually...
Saturday, I ran three tanks of fuel through the chain saw cutting up a couple smaller trees and one large tree. In about the same time I spent in the gym, I burned around 1,400 calories! I think I burned more than that because the chainsaw engine seems to interfere with the heart rate monitor. All I was doing was cutting the tree into rounds so I can split. When I was splitting wood over the summer, I was burning up to 1,600-1,700 calories in a bit over two hours which produced about 1/3 of a cord of wood.
After splitting, I have to move the wood to the house. Right now, the trees are downhill from the house, so I have to push the loaded twin wheel barrow UPHILL which is good exercise!:laughing::laughing:
To have a cord of firewood, a good, ball park guess is that it takes at least 2,000 calories to cut up a tree into splitting rounds and at least another 4,500 calories to split the wood. So at least 6,500 calories to get a cord of wood. Or to put it another way, I loose, or should loose, about 2 pounds of fat to get a cord of firewood! :laughing::laughing:
Hopefully, with the gym AND my usual chores, I can loose what I call the Emergency Pouch which the kids call my fat stomach.

Later,
Dan
