California, The one from Rarelectrical Website looks like would be the best deal except the cross reference numbers don't match. Like the price and will call on Monday to see if they have one like this that matches the cross ref #'s. I don't want to take a chance if the number's don't match and the starter doesn't line up correctly. The CTS 1277 that Kenmac links too, appears to be the exact match as far as cross #'s and their list of tractors, but if you look at picture top left, you'll see a black plug to the left of the brass stud (direct connect to the battery +). I don't have a plug to connect to it, just a wire with a lug connector, so would have to figure out, how to connect it. It's $80 more then Rarelectrical starter, so will check with them and see if they have one that matches like the CTS 1277 and price.
The problem with the starter has been going on for some time. I always thought it was a bad electrical connection or low battery. I always had to try several times to get it to turn the engine over until finally nothing. I took the starter out and tested the solenoid out with another new battery and the solenoid would engage and also the motor would turn. When I put it back in the tractor, I used the new battery and did a jump start directly to it, by passing the ignition. Checked the solenoid and could hear it engage, then jumped with a screw driver across the leads and the engine would turn but only for a little bit. Tried this several times with the same effect, so figured that the starter just couldn't handle the load anymore and time to get another one and quick wasting my time. I called a rebuilder here in So. Ca. and they said it would probably run around $200 (remember, here in Ca. we have to pay extra for govt pensions) to rebuild it, so forget that. If the one from Rarelectric matched on cross ref #s, I would go ahead and buy it. At least the CTS 1277 won't cost me $360 (that includes shipping).
