The large combustion chamber engines have trouble meeting the emissions without more bolt ons. Same reason the big block gas motors are dead.

thanks. Complete reversal of the gasser reality, they are getting less cylinders and more turbos and here the diesel gets more cylinders.

My buddy seems to think $6000, but he is with Cummins, not Nissan. That's simply what the motor cost.

Wrong . A 400cu" six cylinder will produce less emissions and burn less fuel than a 400cu" eight cylinder. The 400cu" eight will usually make higher peak HP.

Just had lunch with the #4 guy at Cummins yesterday. Picked him up in my Titan. They are very excited about the 5.0 going into the Nissan. He is getting one of the first 100.

By the way, he currently drives a Tundra.

If Toyota goes this way they should use a Hino engine. Hino is part of Toyota. They did a concept truck a few years back that was Hino powered.. It was awesome.

one thing I've always wondered about was the focus on highway mpg on trucks. Yet many trucks in urban/suburban areas likely rarely get above fifty mph. A truck is certainly not an economical go to travel vehicle if capacity is not needed, and many families have an SUV, minivan or large sedan that will people haul much more effectively and comfortably. And since station wagons seem to be making a come back of sorts, need to include them too. The simple fact is that trucks not used to their capacity are probably the most fuel inefficient choice of them all.

Seems to me that they are measuring "vacation" mileage for many of us when our reality is more stop and go and under 50 around town.

Just wondering if the real life combined mpg for light trucks ought to be much more weighted to city mpg than what the advertising is touting.

Don't necessarily disagree, but I like the size of a pickup driving into Pittsburgh every day...Mine's a 6.2 GMC Denali. I average 16MPG in all around driving. Not great, but not all that bad either. I have no desire to drive a beer can with the maniacs I have to deal with for over an hour each way..

I don't think the Hino is EPA approved. By going with a Cummins they get instant name recognition and they don't have to deal with the EPA.
