"Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson has been put on an indefinite hiatus from filming the smash hit A&E reality series following inflammatory remarks about gay people he made in an interview with GQ magazine.

In a statement, A+E Networks said, "We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson's comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series 'Duck Dynasty.' His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The networks has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely."

In the interview, which appears in the January issue of GQ, Robertson, founder of the Duck Commander family business of duck calls, referred to gay people as "homosexual offenders" who would not "inherit the Kingdom of God." He also said a woman's ****** was "more desirable" than a man's ****.

"But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man," he told the publication. "It's just not logical."

A representative for A&E acknowledged that Robertson would be appearing in some episodes of the upcoming fifth season of the show that had already been completed at the time of his suspension. The new season premieres on A&E on Jan. 15.

Robertson has drawn much heat for the comments, especially from GLAAD, which said, "Phil's lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe."

The "Duck Dynasty" star also released his own statement to Fox411 on Wednesday, saying, in part, "I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."

Before the comments, "Duck Dynasty" had been an unqualified success for A&E, with the show's fourth season premiere grabbing a record-breaking 11.8 million viewers, making it the top-rated nonfiction series in cable history.

And they were making 200K an episode. Way more than they got from duck calls, plus appearance fees, tie in's, party showups, that family was probably grossing around 5 mil a season at least if not more.

But the guys got huevos. He told people today that "tv shows come and go" so he isn't to worried. Will see how the rest of his family feels as this will probably be the last season.

I suspect this will be the shortest suspension on record. The W Monroe airport will be busy with other channel execs trying to swoop in and sign them to their network.

I agree. They had another show of them hunting, can't remember the network. I think he has the right to say whatever he believes, even if it is the truth that people don't want to hear.

Just look at those despicable two parent families, raising happy, healthy generations of God fearing, self-sufficient progeny. Shame on them.

I've seen plenty of truly offensive shows on TV in the last 10 years. This wasn't one of them.

The real issue is not that Phil spoke his mind it is that the GLBT community can't stand for somebody to say they don't agree with their point of view. For a group that preaches and spews tolerance they are the most intolerant group of people out their today. Their are very few in that community that you can have a civil conversation with. I think that a&e "suspending" him will be short lived. Other wise their are too many other networks that would be happy to have them.

I personally had see the Robertson's on a network other than A&E anyway. Ken Sweet

I agree, There has to be a better network out there for them. Back when my FIL first told about the show I thought he was yanking my chain when he told me it was on A&E. I think it is the only show I've ever found worth watching on that channel.

I have been overseas for a couple years, so I have missed out on this Duck Dynasty thing. But one thing I noticed while I was home, it appears the DD crew has pretty much sold their soul to Walmart. Walking around that place they got their faces on EVERYTHING, shirts, coasters, mouse pads, cups, hats, beard conditioner....you name it.
