I recently found a flail mower for sale. I posted a thread with pictures asking for information. I only got one response from Halftrack identifying it as a Ford 917. I decided to go ahead and take a chance and bought it. There is an identification number cast on the gearbox cover. It looks like 202299. Is that the model number? Any information you can give me on this mower will be appreciated.

I have one like it with 33 cutting stations between 74 & 78" wide.

It cuts must of what a bushhog will and also will cut a yard just like a mower.

I have a IH 424 diesel tractor with about 35 pto HP and it pulls it fine unless I'm in 3' tall grass.

Parts are avalible from New Holland and Flail Master.

I can't find a alum tag on mine. Only the number that is cast on the gearbox. Any help identifying the model of this mower is appreciated.

I think that may be the part number of the cover. Here are some pictures of a 917A, from a google image search.

I noticed that you are the guy that started the mother of flail mower threads, "Let's talk flail mowers", back in 2008.
How many have you had since then?

LEONZ must be on vacation.

Yes I am the one that started that thread. Never got one back then and basically dropped out of that thread but it definitely is an epic. Just got a flail this week. I may be the only person to start a flail thread and not get a " welcome to the flail nation" from Leonz. Kinda feel slighted. Wonder where Mr Z is?

I saw the photos after responding to your IM. Not sure, I'd have to see a side view of a lower three point lift receiver. If there are not small holes above and below the actual lift pin holes, your can rule out 917H. Having said that, hopefully the parts diagrams can narrow it down to a 917 or a 917A or a 917L

Thanks Greg. No small holes in the lower 3 point lift receiver. I'm sure it's not 917h.

One other thing, I plan on replacing the belt. Where is the best place, as in least expensive place, to buy a quality belt? Can I just take the old belt into a Napa, or similar and get them to match, or do I need a specific belt number or model number of the flail to get the correct belt?

Greetings TNhobby farmer from my corner of the soon to be
frozen Eastern Wilderness @1140 feet above mean sea level.

I want to welcome you as the newest member of the Flail Mower Nation.

You can get belts for the flail mower from any retailer.
Just be sure to ask for a green kevlar belts as they have
better shock resistance.

All they need to do is measure the belt to get the correct one for you.

All V belts and bearings are metric and that makes it easy to take care of

Welcome to the Flail Mower Nation Jerry

Only 17,750+- mowers to go
