That video is a hoot !
I wish The Fred would start a new thread to bring us up to date. Maybe the self-righteous types could stay off of the thread long enough for us to learn how the build turned out.
Edit: I see The Fred and I were posting at the same time. Thanks for the update, Fred. Sounds like it was a big success. My hat's off to you for your persistence and tenacity.
Thanks all,
Feels like I added 25hp but no telling without checking it.
I'll check the cab to see if anything metal is close.
So far zero issues. Still does not start very well. Kept inside heated shop about 47 degrees. Let the glowplugs cycle once and it just doesn't start like my old Ciub Cadet left outdoors with a lower rad hose heater that I seldom use. That one starts down to 5 above witout plugging in.
My feeling is that if I left this 3940 outdoors it simply would not start below 30 above. Maybe it's me time will tell.

Fred,
I forget and I can't look it up due to the old thread being gone, but did you ever try it with new diesel?
Holy smoke.. literally. I remember seeing another GL starting, and it was similar I think, but it's been a while. Next time I have the L3400 outside I'll do a cold start video, just for comparison. I don't understand what's so different about these engines, other than injection timing possibly. It's calling for cold temperatures here over the next little while, so I should be able to get a decent video. Funny, after watching the above video there's another one on Youtube of an ALCO locomotive engine doing a cold start. We used to have some of these in gate vessels, starting was always impressive in cold weather. About the only thing worse was some of our ex-British submarine engines in cold weather with a water-cooled exhaust. Looked like Vesuvius boiling over and smelled like.. well, something truly foul.
