I must say that this is the strangest winter I have experienced here in the desert. The next 10 days are forecast to be in the 60's! I still have broccoli, carrots and beets growing in the garden.

David (MossflowerWoods): Things do turn around, though they sometimes take more time than we really want. I got divorced from my first wife in 1976. Over the next 30 years, I had times of despair and times of sadness as I lost both of my parents. Even so, I stayed true to myself and didn't seek a bottle or drugs to hide behind. I found great pleasure in being an over-achiever. It all paid off nicely. I became financially secure and had a very satisfying career despite being lonely at times. Then, I met my current wife and we got married in 2005. All the sadness and loneliness of the past just melted away with the joy this woman brings to my life. I spent a very long time waiting to find just the perfect woman for me. I do not regret one second of that time, but rather I celebrate the joy of finding my perfect partner.

I suggest as 2014 comes around, that you find joy in small things and make good decisions for yourself. Being happy with yourself is the most important thing in every type of relationship: family, marriage, and your job. Just hang in there. One day this will all be a tiny blip on your radar screen. :) HAPPY 2014!!!

Good morning, 15F here this morning with a dusting of snow. Heading back over to Detroit to the Toronto /Detroit Alumni games at Comerica Park. These outdoor games are going to be a lot colder then the games on Sunday. Hope I do not freeze my patooties off.

Hello!! I didn't realize that you were that close to Detroit. It's gonna be a cold day to sit in the stands !!

Your tractor pics and tractor site are pretty good!!

The good thing about rain, as long as you are not at the bottom of a valley with a river or creek, it will run somewhere else. Snow, not so much. The first winter I was in the Navy I spent in Great Lakes. I learned that I wasn't cut out for the snow. Larro

Larro I'm from NE ohio first year in navy I spent at Great Lakes they had the duty crew stay up all night keeping the sidewalks clear. Decided then I wouldn't go farther north then home. Spent the next 3 years in warm weather the only thing I missed was snow on Christmas

Good Evening. 2030, clear, 48* with 88% humidity. Forecast low of 46* with 20% chance of rain. Just before dark when I walked over to my shooting house it was spitting rain. That is two days sooner than they said it was going to get here.

Wilky, the Navy clothes were not very warm. I got me some long underwear after my first payday up there. It took a while for a slot to open up in my A school, and we did a lot of make work while we waited. We all tried to get on the floor cleaning crew if we could. A buffer will keep you warmer than a snow shovel. Later on when I was in Norfolk, we did have one good snow around Christmas. The heaviest snow was a little north of us, and they were on the TV telling folks to stay off the roads. So what did we do? We loaded up and drove north of course.

I graduated Boot Camp at Great Lakes mid December and was home for Christmas in 1969...but I do remember standing guard duty on a Dempster Dumpster while in a pea coat and undress blues during a snow storm (not real bad) during boot...

I worked the supply division office and mess cook barracks as a compartment cleaner waiting for "A" school . One of the guys was from Minnesota went home every weekend he was off. Never missed muster even though he hichhiked each way this was back in 58-59 winter.

Hit Fort Dix, NJ, Dec '65 for basic training, coming from Maine I thought it was the South - maybe, but cold and damp even if the snow didn't last and I got pneumonia, From there to Biloxi, MS for advanced training in the summer.
