As usual, Toppop is sending that heat up to me, and I'll forward it along to New England.
58 degrees in light rain, was pouring and rattling the gutters earlier, another dose of it on the way.
Having a delightful day, got the garage cleaned and organized, and a fire going in the fireplace from earlier.
Will likely let it go out, getting nice and warm. For a little while...
The flood watch is expiring so I'll probably not venture out to the River, just a rushing river likely, with chunks of ice and snow and debris
flying past. Surprised they dropped the watch when the main batch of rain is still to come. Likely because the ice jam at Trenton melted.
Anyone who left their dock or mooring out for the winter is likely to regret it.

Small commercial freighters can come pretty far North on the Delaware, almost to Trenton, and boy would that be an experience to be tooling your
concrete barge upriver and see that wall of ice coming down at you. Or worse the chemical/oil recycler boat that's constantly going up and down the River near here.
Hopefully they saw the movie Titanic...

Drew, you were talking about flood memories. I recall working on a sandbag wall in '93 that was about 10 ft high and seeing the jon-boat working the other side of the wall above my head.:eek::confused2:
Also the number of displaced deer and other animals by the side of the road.

Mostly, must have been a spooky feeling, particularly knowing that all that water over there on the other side of that skinny wall wants to get over to where you are...

Good Morning. 1145, rain, 66* with 94% humidity. Forecast high of 70* with 80% chance of rain for this afternoon, and clear with a low of 41* tonight.

I always come in to work an hour before the first customer's opening time so I can get my two miles of walking in. {I aim for doing it in 30 minutes, but have only got that goal one time. The phone always rings or someone comes in, messing my time up} Well today was no different. Just as I was going past the half mile mark my customer called and ask if she could come in early. I told her to come on, but figured I could get done before she got here. Then a half mile later I see my boss driving up. {her washing machine had died and she was coming in to do a load of towels} As she was loading the machine, the customers show up. Oh well, it is a job. I will do the other mile after everyone leaves.

Drew, the Foul Rift on the Delaware River plays a part in one of my stories. And back in 1718, before the worst of the rapids were blown out, it was really bad.

Not morning, but it is 52 and hammering rain.

The pond is still frozen so the water is flowig all over the top of the ice, looks very odd...

Be well all,
David

Back in 89/90 I visited the UK and while there took a canal boat for a week and crossed the Pontcycylite Aqueduct. The boat can only do about 4 Knots and you can lean over the side and look straight down to the ground 126 feet below

While you're sitting there the boat sometimes scrapes along the side and you get to thinking that's only 4 inches of cast iron holding the water in and it's been there for 200 years. How many other boats have scraped along the side and how thin has the iron been worn away to.

Evening.

What a rotten weather day this has been here. Lots of accidents today all over the state today due to icy roads.

It was below freezing and raining until around noon. It has been 33*F and raining since noon. The frozen rain from this morning is still stuck where it landed. The sand I put on the driveway Monday is now embedded in ice. No way 33* rain and zero sunshine is going to melt blocks of ice with hard froze ground beneath it.

The weather guessers are still saying it could hit the low 40's around 9pm with more rain. I still have higher hopes than Drew Brees.

Scraped about a foot of snow off 120' of roof edges yesterday afternoon so the warming temperatures and rainfall didn't create ice dams. It got as high as 42 degrees here yesterday, and as high as 38 today. Crazy weather. Girlfriend is watching the grandkids so I am single again for the night... or at least until she gets back here....
