i'd say 2 of your trucks have bad tires / brakes if the ld stops faster then the HD.. especially the one with 2 more pieces of rubber on the ground.... :)
Bad guess.
The 1500 crew cab chevy stops the combo quicker as its a lighter mass. With a 3950 FAWR and a 4000 RAWR and two 5.2k trailer brakes = 18250 lb of braking capacity for those panic stops.

My 2500 Dodge/Cummins stops the same load in a shorter distance than the crew cab DRW truck with the same trailer. Once again its all about mass weight.

Like one poster says the trucks brakes stop the loaded truck and the trailers brakes stops the trailer with its load. Both are within there load limits.

Brakes on all LDT today are vastly improved over the older model trucks.

all i can go by is what i have driven....my f450 dually.. the largest truck i have, stops faster than my 350 dually, or my 250 or my ex 1500 dodge ram. that 450 will panic stop my gn trailer loaded for bear.. I know.. I had to test that on the interstate coming home one night from georgia when my buddy's e350 conversion passanger van broke down and we had to drag it home... then some idgit in a rice rocket decided he needed to change lanes about 5' in front of me.. except he was doing about 25mph less than me.

spilled some drinks.. but no breaks locked up and no vehicle parts touched. i do think t he guy in front of me had a 'brown alert' though as he quickly exited to the right lane within a few minutes... ( was a good test of our tie downs too! ) I've had a chance to panic stop that same gn with less of a load using my 350... it stopped fine.. but not as good as the 450. the dodge ram took a country mile to stop... made me fearfull to use the gn with her.. the 250 makes points for good effort.. but not as good as either of the 2 larger trucks with more rear rubber...

weight as you can imagine goes from light to heavy with 1500, 250, 350, 450.

thus my experiences are that more rubber stops you faster. the brakes on those duallies are larger than the other 2 as well. I DO have a better ( more $ ) break controller inthe 450 vs the other 3 however.. that might account for some of it.. )

All this 1/2 ton "safety" debate getting hot as usual on this site.
I'd still take my chances stepping out on a crosswalk in front of a tractor owner type person driving a "dangerous"( per this site) overloaded truck, than a car driven by a typical person texting, or an elderly driver. This statement I say with the upmost confidence, based on real life observations/experiences and published government statistical facts.

The debate is highky skewed by your electric brake controllers... compare vehicles pulling trailers with surge brakes or air brakes to prove my point... :)

I don't care who says what, your much safer towing a load with a bigger truck. Period. If you only have the option of the truck that you currently have, then you have to weigh the consequences of what your doing. Has just about everyone who has ever towed something gone beyond the listed capacities of either truck and trailer and survived? of course. Is it a good idea to do it on a regular basis? Not at all. The likelihood that every trailer we discuss on here is set-up correctly and is maintained perfectly is unlikely at best. Because of this, your truck is always going to be doing some braking for the trailer unless you feel like cooking trailer brakes. And it seems to me that if you lock up or heavily apply the brakes on a trailer, it has a tendency to create a lot of pin weight to counteract the braking effect of the trailer axles. If you don't have enough suspension to carry the weight, something is going to get out of wack and cause a very big problem. Or am I missing something here?

If you get stopped by the state police or even the locals they will check your GVWR and if you are overloaded you're toast. They won't let you drive and will tow truck and trailer away,,, plus the fine will be very expensive. If you were to get into an accident and were overloaded,,, plan to spend some quality time in jail.

This probably varies from state to state, but the only law enforcement with scales around here concentrates on commercial vehicles only. They might not even have authority to pull over private loads. Besides, in some states, "farm trucks" are pretty much exempt from normal limits.

the whole farm plate thing opens even more issues.

some states have limites on how far a farm plate can travel from the farm. some call farm commercial too.

in my state. a dot officer can pull over a private motorist. so can a state wildlife officer!

Great... more doom and gloom on TBN.
