Just got finished building a house last fall. Our old house was on property in town and I could cut everything with my push mower in about an hour and a half so I never purchased a rider. Our new property sits on about 1.5 acres with the back yard, about .75 acres, that is hillside. There is a lot of it that is sloped at about 25 degrees. I just wanted to get someone's thoughts on how a x738 or x758 would handle it. I borrowed my father in laws Husqvarna and took a serious ride down the hill, not fun. This is why I am looking for a 4x4. I cut the grass this past fall with my Polaris and pull behind mower. It does ok, but is hard on the grass. I also looked at the Kubotas, just because they are a bit cheaper, but after reading on this forum there seems to be some issues with the GR series. Thoughts, comments are appreciated.

While the GR had a bad rollout, the new model is much better. The tight turning radius plus 4x4 is pretty awesome.

The X748 and X758 machines will go places you never thought possible. I have seen some youtube videos of guys mowing some extremely steep angles with absolutely no stability issues.

You might want to try a Ventrac if the JD does not work for you.

My X748 is an excellent choice for me. Great comfort mowing and snow blading.

I bought a Ventrac after several mishaps trying to cut my slopes with a zero turn. I don't have the patience to cut them up and downhill. I have a Ventrac 4000 series with double wheels and it is rated for side-hilling a 30 degree slope. It would be overkill for the OP's property size. Mine has an 84" contour deck. I also have a 60" rough cut deck, a power rake, a trencher, a stump grinder, a seed broadcaster, and a front scoop. The machine is incredibly flexible but not exactly a "value" proposition for limited use. I work mine quite a bit on a 40 acre property and a 7 acre property.

A 25 degree slope (using easy mental math) is one that rises 1 FT for each 2 FT of travel. I have some areas that would be equal to that, probably a bit more steep. I usually mow there (drive up - back down) with the 3320. On taking delivery of X739 last fall, I did the drive up / back down test in the steepest portion. The x739 has HDAP tires - no fill - no weights

I would not hesitate to say 4WD 738/758 will handle up / down on a 25 degree slope with NO problem. Now, if you are planning on driving sideways, I can't offer a specific response. The slope varies where I cut, so some portions can be done sideways with either the 3320 or Craftsman, but I haven't taken measurements to determine how many degrees at the point where i decide sideways is too far.
