Why I hate North Carolina

Grew up in Southern Calif......we never had snow days but we had "smog" days. You couldn't go out at recess....you were not allowed to run on the playground.....sports were cancelled.....parents were advised to drive kids to school. We use to call it "chunky" air......I remember not being able to take a deep breath after running around with my buddies. The air was brown......looked like dirty fog. It's much better now.

I remember going to LA in the early 80's. The air was so bad it looked like a brown fog.

Yeah, I saw that you have direct experience. I'm counting the years until we build on our corner of Catawba County, purchased last year.

In what part of the county did you end up buying?

I don't think that it's the dusting of snow that school officials are concerned about, but the Black Ice. Two years ago, our youngest Grandson's bus slid into a ditch. The bus was two stops before our Daughter's driveway.

I am with you creekbend. Live here for 30 or 50 years and you will understand. If you hate the place go back home up north as quickly as possible.
Like yesterday. See post # 30

Growing up in Montana we were not allowed inside the school buildings until 15 minutes before the first class started. We would all pile off the school buses and then stand around for 15-30 minutes in below freezing weather waiting for them to unlock the doors. Sometimes it was so cold all we could do was stomp our feet and pat our arms trying to keep the blood flowing ;) I sometimes wonder how many lawsuits that would spawn today ;)

The county I drive school bus for had off Monday for MLK day then has cancelled every day since including tomorrow, Friday. I suppose for the expected 3 degree low. I can remember the chains rattleing on the bus years ago while going to school where I grew up, lol!

One big difference of course is the threat of a lawsuit. That makes it real easy when the decision to call off school is "iffy".

As a true NC boy, Born here and will die here. Us locals always wonder why the Yankees come here by the 100,000 per year. Possibly because you could get a job, or pay less in taxes. I have good advice for you. Stop complaining and GO HOME. Back where life is good.

Ah, jeez. Here we go...

What's funny to me is, here in our little part of south GA we get very little snow. Maybe 3 or 4 flakes every 6 or 7 years it seems like, but we do still have a lot of red clay dirt roads. Add a 1/2 inch of rain and they are slicker than glass.

The same people who will drive 50 mph down these roads, sliding from side to the other while jumping over 2 ft deep ruts and never hit the ditch or think about slowing down, are the same people who hit the ditch as soon as the 5th snow flake hits the ground.

I don't get it ...LOL.

You will LOVE the gun laws in NC. Anything for a rifle other than auto, and about a year wait now for a suppressor. Get a cc permit, and buy whatever pistol you want on the spot (with 10 minute background check) on a handgun. No mag restrictions whatsoever.
