what on earth does electricity cost near you?

I was curious, but sort of ignoring this thread. Decided to look & see what lectric cost.
Well good news first. I pay my bill on line so rarely open the paper bill. Opened 1 tonight. Not a bill but a check for $15.44.
Next 1 a check for $10.33 - Not good any more over 1 year old. They apply un-cashed checks to some college fund. So I helped some go to college.

Adding all the junk up on the bill & dividing it comes out to about 0.14 a KWH. That will change some each month because of the fixed costs.
Lowest bill ever was month before last $77.00 ( I was in hospital for about 2 weeks of that. - Had grandson here for a couple of months bill $165 / $163.
Last year I tried keeping the house warm with 2 electric space heaters, & bill jumped to over $330.
Mfg. 14'X70' home well built & insulated. With a crappy designed gas furnace & AC. Summer AC came to about $330. Throw in the propane and even higher in winter.

I designed & built my own wood stove. It will run you out of the house if not throttled down. After 5 years just changed to an improved design. Less wood - More heat. - Large cook top & coffee warmer on 1/8" stove pipe & damper.
Summer I use a Swamp Box (evaporation cooler) bill about $150 avg. It will run 24/7 at times.

holy crap....thats all over the place. Why is Hydro so high there?

Gerald Butts a militant green weenie convinced Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty. That subsidizing solar power at 80.2 cents per Kw and wind power at 16.5 cents was a good idea.
OPG nuclear is paid less than 5 cents per Kwhr.
The rate payer is paying for green power. And for double and triple dipping outside contractors extending outages and refurbishment projects. OPG used to build and maintain their own equipment. Officially some American ex Navy bean counter made a case for lower operating costs with outside contractors. 4 or 8 unit PHWR stations in a company with twenty reactors is much different than a single or double PWR station.

Cuz if we still had low-cost electricity, that would encourage Manufacturing in this country.

What would happen to all the McJobs if we did that ? :mur:

$0.26/KWh here, and for me about $800/year in carbon tax.

At those prices, and with my perception of your Solar Index, am I correct in assuming that Solar PV and heating panels are popular ?

Over the past 34 days, Dec. 13th to Jan. 16th I used 33 kWh/day and here is what I paid out;
On peak: 181.7214kWh@12.9cents/hour $23.44
Mid peak: 234.7874kWh@10.9cents/hour 25.54
Off peak: 696.3834kWh@7.2cents/hour 50.14

Delivery Charge: 86.01
Regulatory charges 7.01
Debt Retirement charge 7.79
HST (this is combined sales tax) 25.99
SUB-TOTAL $225.92
Ontario Clean Energy Benefit
(Bast*rds think they are buying my vote again) $22.59
TOTAL Bill $203.33

Many years ago the old Ontario Hydro went broke, so the goobermint changed the name to hydro One and set up a 'debt retirement charge' to gouge Ontarions out of more of their hard earned pennies.
HST Is actually the old 'manufacturers tax' (GST) + (Sales tax)
Clean energy credit is just a way of giving us back some of what they screwed us out of.
When Hydro has too much juice and Ontario isn't using as much as what they (Hydro ) is making they pay New York to take it. We the people pay for that too. We are well and truly screw*d coming and going.
